Picked up a mag 7's s2000 today got it home, let it warm up a few hours, as it was sitting in a guys garage plugged it in and it shows self test then displays netplex link is down.un- plugged the printer, bill validator and coin comparitor one by one and still get the same thing.swapped out power supply behind the reels out of my other s2000 and still get link is down.checked my connections, and looked on the board on outside of door(where the wires go to the display) pulled the main board out found no burns pushed down on all the chips to make sure they are seated and the machine now, keeps flashing self test passed over and over.Turn the machine off and then on it will pass dislay self-test and then go to netplex link down for about a minute, then keeps testing it self over and over. Any ideas??  thanks in advance and Merry Christmas! Duh! Duh! Duh!

I have a machine that almost does the same thing. It passes the self test & then goes to the Nex-plex , turns it's self  off & then tries to start up again & again. The small lite behind the $.25 stars to turn on first. Finally  it turns on & I never shut it off.

This is a long shot but try removing the reels out, one  at a  time & make sure they are seated. Sometimes this works & sometimes not. I even replaced the board & tried a different chip. No difference.

Thea's  got to be an x-slot tech that can helps us out.
I didn't mean to steal your thread, I thought i was the only one that had that problem.

The solution to your problems is to take the ram chip located at U18 and put it in U45 and put the ram chip from U45 in U18. This will clear the RAM and clear all tilts you have.

Yep, power down, swap the chips and power back up. Swapping the chips clears the RAM. I had the same problem a few months back. You have more than one tilt piled up swapping the chips will clear the RM and all tilts

You guys are helping him clear the RAM but he is not clearing
the EEPROM without the proper Clear chip.
Without him clearing that, the error is still stuck in the machine
and is displayed over and over.

He needs the IVC00097 Clear chip to reset the machine
back to it's default factory spec settings.

This chip can be had at many of the vendors listed
on the top of the home page of NLG.

Cruispl is right about the "stacked error codes"...
sometimes continuously opening and closing the door will resolve these issuses.
However, if the game was changed from a previous game that required a certain
Netplex peripheral component - the machine will continue
to search for it until it is cleared from the EEPROM.

I could be wrong on this.
It may just be a bad ground pin/wire on a Netplex harness.

Completely agree with bunker regarding 97 clear chip. When I switch various kits in and out, sometimes I get similar issues.  With a clear chip in, I also power on, wait for amber lights, power off, and repeat the procedure 2-3 times to make sure everything is cleared.

Thanks

Bunker  Don't knock it until you've tried it.  I have had real good luck by swapping the two CMOS chips. Word of caution do not bend a leg on the chip, they like to break off when you try to straighten them.

if the nexplex link down error won't clear I would replace power supply.  Do you have a known good power supply?

Netplex link is down has been covered many times here (try a search)

From past experience for me it has always been a bad mpu
I would suggest after trying all the above mentioned cures from the other members
is try a different mpu if the game boots fine with the newly swapped mpu you will know its a board problem.
Also swapping U18 and U45 is worth a shot first.

Kevin  Just goes to show you that a fellow should read the whole post before he opens his BIG mouth. I didn't see the part about a leg already being broken. But the COMOS chips that have like a small board on them are the ones I was referring to.  Ask Stat he bent one of mine and they snap off in a heart beat.

I just tried another Board, a 504-b,

It said the DISPLAY NEXPLEX IS DOWN.
What's going on .
On the new board I left u-45 & u-18 alone. l don't want to change any more of the right now.
It worked before I changed them. I guess I need to get a RAM CLEAR 97.

How do I check for a bad ground on the Nexplex harness?  MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

That's easy...remove both ends of the Netplex harness and pull them a little bit towards you.
Stick one end of the multimeter in one end on a pin and one
end of the multimeter on a pin in the other end.
See if you get a good continuity reading.

If you find this too hard to do, just unhook one end of the harness
from the motherboard and wiggle it back on.
Sometimes what this does is give the receptor pins a new contact onto the male pins.
If you have some "Deoxit" spray, I'd spray a little shot of it onto the male pins
of the header on the motherboard and a bit of it onto the receptor female pins on the harnesses.

These harnesses are easy to find - they will be running to the motherboard
from various Netplex peripherals such as the DBV, the printer and the progressive meter if there's one.

By any chance, is there some type of bonus game component up in the top box?
What I mean is...is there a wheel or an LCD screen?
Where is your printer located? Up top?
If so, check the Netplex distribution board up there and make
sure everything is plugged into it that needs to be.

oh...and Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas! I have a piece of solder holding the leg of the chip on and getting a solid netplex link is down again. I took a power supply out of my other s2000 and plugged it in and get the same message netplex link down(Do they make different power supply units? The pins on power supply looked to be in a different place on the one I took out of the top dollar machine) I have another board in the top dollar machine with the same part # on it.But I have never swapped a board before and don't know which chips to swap and do I need another key chip to get it up and running again in either machine? The only chip I have is a KEY 31 from SANTA BUZZ So,I'm a little nervous Help  All your guys help is greatly appreciated!!!! THANKS AGAIN!

Here is some pics of the machine. You can't see it vary well ,but the printer is in the top.I have the printer disconnected,if I plug it in it goes through it's cycle and flashes on and off(there's no paper in it). So I'm assuming it works

Does pushing the test button on the MPU cage allow you to get into the settings at all?
If so, try disabling the printer for now with the 31 Key until you get some paper for it.
I'm wondering if that's what's giving you the Netplex Down error?

No pushing the test button doesn't do anything. Turn the switch on,passes self test and goes to netplex link down. Just took apart power box behind reels looking for burn marks or bubbled capacitors and found nothing.I guess just start pulling connections and boards looking for broken solder connections or wires.Might buy a power supply just for fun,any ideas on where to buy one and do I need #'s off it? Thanks for the help!
