Ohhhh How I Miss this Place!!!

Well We just got 30" of snow here and there hasn't been a plow in sight.  So I spent a few hours cleaning up my office and I came across these matches!!!!

I also came across a 256Mb sandisk compact flash card -  for my future bluebird..... Muhahhaahaaaaaaaa

I used to love to stay in the Stardust tower - then I could walk to Rivera, Frontier - Church across the street.    It was so great to have that area of the strip.  
Now I hang out at Gold Coast and the Orleans - but they're kinda isolated.   I have walked to Rio many times but I think their casino sucks.

Good service,food & drinks do a lot even if the machines seem a little tight.

I too remember the good old days of the Stardust Casino..... Sad to see the older casinos go as the newer casinos definitely lack that " at home ; cozy " type feel.  ..... I was a HUGE fan of the WESTWARD HO........ Damn I miss that palce. At least I have a few reminders.... Bill

SamsTown is nice too.

I find it ironic that the off the beat little casinos
have newer machines than the megalopolis casinos.

The wife LOVES  Sam's Town.   She made me promise her that the next time we go to Vegas that we stay there.   You just can't beat the older , smaller casinos.   I'm also a big fan of the Old Strip too !!!

hello,that is why we like downtown casinos.that small town feiling,we seem to win more there as well ,i like the old reel them in machine and you still need to get hand pay outs for 100.00 at the fitzs casino,binnion,and nugget/happy new year to all of you /and happy slots/

The big dogs don't always get it right. There was a massive study of casino design done in which the author researched casinos dating back several decades. What he found was that casinos with large open areas such as are designed in the strip hotels make gamblers feel uncomfortable. The large strip properties have been very successful at attracting guests with their decor, dining, and peripheral activities, but they reportedly can only get a small percentage of their guests to gamble. By contrast, the tightly packed casinos like the oldies downtown are often jam packed with patrons.

The study determined that when people are gambling they feel vulnerable. They have money, purses, and other belongings that they want to protect, but they find themselves focusing their attention on the machine or game that they're playing to the exclusion of everything else. When their backs are facing large, open areas they feel exposed. Playing in a tightly confined space makes gamblers feel more secure. Most people don't consciously realize why they feel comfortable or not in a given location; it happens on a subliminal level, but space has a profound effect on how long players stay and play.

My wife and I miss the Westward Ho too! Used to hit Nickle Nicks cafe in the morning for donuts & coffee. Then in the evening it was $1.99 margarita's!! They would have a guy dressed as Elvis walking around and entertaining patrons.
Man, what a fun place!! I've got Westward Ho coffee mugs as souvenirs.
The Stardust had a nice sportsbook.

My brother-in-law tore down the Ho. They had an agreement with Slots-O-Fun that if they shut them down by accident it would cost a million a day in damages. Well, they sent a beam through the second story wall at 3 in the morning. It shook up a security guard but it didn't shut them down. 
He also helped strip out the Stardust before they imploded it.

The Westward Ho was the first Hotel I stayed in Vegas.  I was like 13 years old or so, when I used to go with my Grandmother back in the late 70's and early 80's before she was too sick to travel.

A friend and I split a "HO Dog" on our first trip, shortly before they closed.  Man that thing was awful.
