Volumn control question

WHen I got my slot working, it was so loud, my buddy down the street heard it from his garage. I found and adjusted the volumn down with the little wheel atop the board. Today, I wanted to adjust it, turned it about 1/8 turn one way (it got LOUDER), so went the other way and it basically went off. There is no rhymm or reason to how it works, no matter which way I turn it... too loud or too low.

Ideas? Bad controller?

Whose wheels are very sensitive. You have to move it ever so little to make a big differences. They have a disk in front of the wheel
that makes it hard to tell how much you move it. I had to continually adjust mine until I got it right volume.

It's basically a cheap pot resistor knob.
It wears out and becomes useless.
Find a cheap one at radio shack and solder it in and you have better volume control.
You might see them on old electric alarm clocks too!

my deaf wife like it better silent now... as if she could hear it before... hahahaha....

I will tinker with it... I like the sounds, it was just a little loud while playing. Thanks guys

Another option if you can't get it quiet enough is to put a piece or two of electrical tape over the speaker grill.

The simplest way I've found to get the level you want is to use the pseudo coin button (on the optics), then press the "spin" button to get a full spin in, and adjust the volume as it's spinning.

   But keep in mind that the volume is louder when listening from the back side of the door (open). If you're picky about getting just the right volume, get it as close as you can to your desired level over a few spins, then add credits with the pseudo coin button, close the door 95% of the way and press spin to listen from the front. Do not close the door completely or you will lose any credits you added or won with the pseudo-coin button.

There is usually a critical point at which the volume changes drastically and on either side of which, change is minimal. Naturally, the most desirable volume is usually within the critical area. The volume knob can be so picky that just tapping on it in the desired direction can make a difference.

ya, I was adjusting the knob, closing the case and playing it.... when its LOUD, its really LOUD! Now, all you hear are the reels spinning, I prefer a little jingle of the tunes. I will play with it during a cigar break today and only adjust it slightly.

You're right Buzz!
I used some tiny light knob that was from an old lamp.
It fit in one of the unused holes on the right-hand side of the machine perfectly.
Sometimes people ask me what that little knob is for
and I tell them it's to change the percentage...lol

On the MPU, I soldered in a 2-pin header and all I do is unplug the 2 wire harness
from the connector whenever I take out the MPU.
