push and hold the self test button(little white button by the power switch) for about 10 seconds or until you see the 61-1 in the display, close the door, and turn the reset key, this should clear the 61 error off the machine.

you have to push and hold the self test button until the machine makes a noise, then close machine and turn reset key, the numbers you are seeing by just closing the door and turning the reset key are the machines meters for coion in, coin out etc.

By the way, what type of machine are we trying to clear?

This must be an IGT S-Plus machine, not a 5500 (Bally)

Agreed, since Bally's don't have a 61 code CMOS error. Wayne, I read the other thread.

Push and hold the test button until you get the ding and the 61 1. Then close the door fully. Make sure that the latch is all the way down so that the optics meet and the machine sees the door as closed. THEN turn the jackpot key.

Thread moved to the IGT S+ board and renamed. Duplicate thread on Bally board deleted.

I'm sure you guys heard this before, but I just replaced the reel chip with a higher paying chip.  I get a 61 error, and no matter how long I hold the test button, it only makes it go clear on the front except for saying 0 credits...the 61 goes away.  I've tried that and hitting reset key and when I turn off and power back up, the 61 comes back.  I don't get a ding even if I hold the test button all day.  No...I don't have a RAM clear chip...but could use one probably but don't know how to use this.  Any suggestions?  Am I doing the test button wrong?

I had this dreaded problem this week with my S+.   Here is what I had to do.
1. Open the door and disconnect the door optic not on the door but the case.  red and white wire
2. turn on the slot until the 61 appears.
3. Now press the reset button until the 61-1 is displayed
4. reconnect the optic
5. close the door and turn the key now

After I got the slot working the reset button now works correctly.
