Power supply not working on one of my machines. Yes it is bally 5000 reel slot what is the first thing to look at to fix it. Fuse is good nothing burnt.

many power supplies can be repaired by shotgunning capacitors.  i suggest increasing voltage on all electrolytic caps for extended lifespan, just dont mess with the microfarads!  g/l

Replace all the caps.The term "shotgunning" means like shooting a shotgun into a flock of birds: You'll get a bunch, and some may be worth eating.

If you replace all the caps, you'll replace the bad ones, and it's a lot faster and the caps are so cheap there's no sense in troubleshooting only the bad ones.

K+ for the explanation, Bill.  I'd never heard the term before, but your explanation made perfect sense.

Yup, capacitors have a limited life for sure.  You can get some really weird symptoms in your game if they start to go bad. 

Junkman, you didn't say if your output voltage was a little high, low or totally missing.  I'd assume "not working" means totally dead.

My Brother had a fairly large capacitor blow in his Marshall power brake that was hooked into his 100 watt Marshall tube guitar amp. The power brake soaks up the wattage so that you can get that tasty tone at a lower volume that the amp gets at 100w full power.  The house smelled like burnt hot dogs for 2 weeks.  Then we opened up the amp and there was a lot of black stuff all over the place.  Caps have many uses and even caps with life left in them sometimes need to be replaced. At least for pro audio anyway.
