I asked about a couple of these items before but did not get any definative answers. Short of cutting a million wire ties to see where everything goes, I thought I would ask. BTW, my other S+ does not have these items.

First, the cable in the upper left went from behind the cash box (the big connector and adapter) up to the top. Any idea what it was for? Is it something someone might need or is it trash?

Upper right is a small board mounted to the back. Hard to tell where the cables go for this. Any idea what it is and is it also just trash material? In that same part of the picture there is a cherry switch behind the MPU. What would that be for? Scratch Head

Lower left shows a rocker switch on the door. The wires from the switch go out that connector and it looks like up to the top, but I can't tell without cutting wire ties. My other S+ has the cable, but there is not even a cutout for the switch, and the wires seem to go down somewhere behind the panel.

Last is the extra switch on the door. Any idea why that would be there?

There are also cable ends down by the mother board that are not connected to anything. I'm just trying to pull out as much useless stuff as possible. But if any of these items may have a use for something down the road, I need to know.

Hey poppo

The box in the upper right photo looks like player tracking hardware.

The wiring harness in the lower left photo, I think is for the florescent lighting in the belly glass.

You are right about the harness connector on the door. I just looked again and that rocker switch actually goes to a seperate wire bundle going????

Well, I got out the cutters and new tie straps. After unraveling everything, I found that most of the spare wires went to that tracking board or whatever it is, and were not connected to anything else (clipped off or unplugged). So all of that wiring came out along with the board. I 'think' that rocker switch on the door is a master bypass for all of the other cherry switches since it was wired up with them. In any case, all of that is now out and everything still works. I'm still curious as to the real purpose of that rocker switch though. If nothing else, the machine is probably 10 pounds lighter.  rotflmao

The red/black rocker switch on the belly door panel is NOT a part of an S+.
The red/black/gray wires ARE for the belly door fluorescent lights.
I've grounded myself to 115VAC many times on that...
My heart runs awesome! lol
Anyways, the red/black rocker switch was definitely something someone
else put in there for some reason.

Well, if it was not 'factory', someone did a good job of punching the hole with a professional tool. I'm thinking it was a bypass and installed by the casino or special ordered with it. I can't see anyone (home owner) taking their time to install it and have the wires in routed in the original wire bundle and tie straps.  FWIW, this machine came from the MGM.

All of the switches including the rocker switch went to this plug. The wires from that plug blend into the the two connectors on the bottom. And the manual I have does not give any info on that plug and wiring.

The only detailed pin description that fits is J/P 207. It is the right size, is the only number not listed in the descriptive diagram that you posted, and is on the same page as the descriptions for J/P 201 and J/P 203.

So the question is: What does "(74) Display Out" drive?

I wonder if that was for that reel glass display we're seeing in the other thread about the M/S machine?

Ok, I got a little confused, but here is where it all went. The plug that went into that jack I pointed to above only has 2 wires in use. Those two wires are going to the cherry switch behind the MPU as seen in the first picture (so none of the wires going to the motherboard are used). I stuck it back on for the picture. BTW, I don't know if all 16Mhz MPU trays are the same, but this one has a tab that extends to push that cherry switch down when the MPU is in place.

The other cherry switches including the rocker switch all go to the 12 pin connector with the green arrow in the second picture that was located in the top box. The two unconnected wires went to another cherry switch behind the cash box (detecting the box in place). The black connector went to that tracking board or whatever it is that was on the back of the cabinet. I don't know what that two pin connector went to.

So I assume the rocker was to turn something on and off. But why would all of the cherry switches be connected to the top? There are no holes or anything showing that a cable left the unit. Whatever this was for, it was monitoring the MPU for insertion, the cash box, and the main door.

Casino Security wanted to know when the cash box or MPU was removed and probably if they where removed when they are not supposed to be, somebody had some explaining to do.

Coors, your diagram confirms that the connector I posted is the right one.

That might have been the purpose of this setup, but it doesn't explain the purpose of the switch on the door.

It's like they 'borrowed' those extra pins for the MPU switch.

As I mentioned earlier, I do not have any other 16Mhz boards to compare. But see how this tray has the tab on the end to press down that switch. Are all 16Mhz trays like this?

All of this wiring looked like it was factory installed and not added after the fact..

The rocker switch almost had to be used for something else. Would be pretty stupid to have a security system with the on/off switch right there.  Duh!

You guys are all one the right track really.
It is a security setup but it looks professionally installed
as an option by either IGT or some security company.
It's basically not used anywhere out here in the home market -
it was an extra option that some paranoid casino wanted installed.

If you were to follow all the wires to all the extra switches and cut it out - it
would have zero effect on how you machine plays or operates.
Except for the "Super Secret Rocker Switch"... bust gut laughing Cry Laughing

Well, I already figured that out since it's all out now.  Tongue Out  Can someone look at that 16Mhz MPU picture a few posts back and tell me if all of the 16Mhz trays are like that. That may be a clue as to if it was a factory job or not.

I was mainly wondering if all 16Mhz trays are like that or if only some had the tab, specifically for that switch (i.e. it was a factory option). None of my six 10Mhz trays have that tab.
