What did I see ?

While in las Vegas for C.E.S. I noticed in the Rio Hotel that there was a machine on the floor that had Wolf Run on it. The next time I glanced over it was a different game. At first I thought this was caused by being over 50 - but on closer look there was a line at the top of the bottom LCD screen that offered a total of five games.

When the lower LCD changed the face of the game the top glass was also a LCD and it changed to the proper top glass.

It was made by IGT. What did I see ?

I'm guessing it was an AVP machine. I don't think that server based machines are out yet.  (where are our industry experts?)

No, they have non-server-based that just have multiple user-selectable themes in them.  It's not much of a different concept from a Game King, just newer and prettier.

So does anyone know the final version of this system that was approved by the commission, particularly with regard to how and when they are allowed to change the payback percentage of games on the floor?

I'm most interested in knowing if they were given permission to change paybacks preferentially based on customers' players club activity levels.

I've heard tell that the Nevada Gaming commision is in no mood for server based games because of the high potential for casinos to fiddle with payout percentages and/or hacking on that type of system

I don't think the Rio has server based games. This is most likely a standard local multi-game in the same kind of configurable cabinet that they use for SBG.

The properties are not that interested in SBG - all the fuss about it is being generated by the single supplier who has bought up all the patents and IP.

I asked the slot cashier about the machine and she didn't have a clue about the machine. She did offer to get me a slot tech and declined her offer because I didn't want to waste the tech's time, 'cuz I knew the answer was at my fingertips on N.L.G.

The rules are laid out in Reg 14, the machine must be idle for four minutes before they can change the software. A message must be displayed on the game screen that the software is changing.
So when you go to the restroom and come back, make sure it is less than four minutes.

The Cannery East is on Boulder Hwy down by Arizonia Charlies. They have several of the newest machines from most manufactures. And they have a area of old coin-in poker machines.
The Cannery West is on Craig Road right off of I-15. Nice arrangement of newer machines there too. Was there last week, wife dragged me to one of those "starving artist" sales.

Actually, I was mistaken, the starving artist sale was at Palace Station Casino. And yes, we fed the artists good!
With frame the total for this 2x3 painting was about $100. I said if you saw that in a store you wouldn't buy it, but here we did.
It was a fun time and we played awhile in the casino too!

Stat was probably right about it being an AVP model cabinet.  i have AVP games on my floor right now that the player can choose from 6 different game themes on 3 different denominations - basically there are 18 different games on the one cabinet.  makes programming a pain in the arse, especially if there are any progressives in there,  but the guests absolutely love these machines.

Brianzz mentioned that multigame slots are server-based.  this is both true and false.    we have many GameKing cabinets that are multigame and multidenom but are not server-based capable.  for years we've all seen the poker machines with several different poker themes to choose from.  however all the major machine manufacturers are making all of their machines server-based capable nowadays whether the casino is going to use the server-based capabilities or not.  it's up to the casino which themes and denoms are installed on the machine so it may or may not be multigame.  Op-Bell nailed this one i think.

CityCenter in Vegas was supposed to open with a totally server-based floor not too long ago, i honestly haven't followed it but i am pretty sure they got it up and running.  SB is cool but i think it will make the guests feel like they are being cheated even more than they already do.  the "you guys tightened these games up because of the promotion" complaints will no longer be quite as absurd.  with SB it is possible for the casino to change games and pars with a few clicks of a mouse.     however with good regulation in place the opportunity for the casino to suddenly and unnoticeably change a par from 93% to 83% shouldn't be an issue.  i know that if SB ever gets approved in AZ and i have to change a game i'll probably have 2 or 3 gaming agents from my tribal gaming commission along with 2 or 3 agents from the state gaming department standing over my shoulder watching everything i do, not to mention the fact that the camera is always watching, especially us techs for some reason...
