i bought these and they look different Scratch Head i was just wondering if there was any difference in them besides the way they look?.... also the top left bulb is out on one of them, does that make a difference? cuz all i see is the middle bulbs light when you hit on them....and whats the best way to illiminate the whinning noise when they spin.... i wanted to turn off the reel spin melody off but both my sets of reels make a whinning noise as they spin......i listen closely to machines at the casino there reels never make any noise....

Weird.  Never seen the type on the right.  Is the bulb housing on the one on the right white too?  Seems like it wouldn't emit the same light with the fortress in front of it.  Maybe I'm wrong.

Thanks,
Jason

I think that's just a cover on the right hand reel and lifts off.  IGT's way of trying to direct the light.

Staz If you have a one line game, you can remove the 12 bulbs above and below the pay line. OK folks there are a few exceptions Wild Cherry comes to mind.

Those reels are the same.  The only difference it that the ones on the right have FRUIT COVERS (it think they call them that).  They are removable.  They are for limiting the light on games that have all symbols and no blanks so that the light does not spill over to the symbols above and below.  Also useful if you have a 5 line Fox N Hounds vision game.

Also similar to the covers that are used on 5 reel games for the same reason.

The reason you cant hear the noise in the casino is because the ambient noise in a casino is louder.
Also I suspect the light housing on back lit reels acts like a small megaphone and amplifies the reel noise

Noise coming through speakers or actual noise from reels?  There's a sticky topic on noise if it's coming from the speakers.  Actual reel noise can depend on wear and tear of the reel assembly.

Thanks

It would seem unluckly for them to be worn out at that age, but those reels generally run pretty quiet. Not silent of course, not noticably loud though either.

Staz,
Use the NLG "Search" box pictured below and type in noisy reels

You'll be surprised at just how many threads are devoted to this very subject.
You might find an answer there.
