S+ Battery leakage, Can I salvage the chips?

Well, I picked up two free S+'s and both had battery leakage, one battery vomited BAD.... But I managed to take a few extra boards with no leakage.  So my question is (Look at pic), Is there anyway to save these chips, or do you think they are toast (There is green growth on some pins)?????????  Figures I did not take a spare board from its twin before it went to scrap     TIA

Pull the chips off and clean the legs with some battery acid
cleaner stuff you can get at the auto parts store.
It will neutralize the acid.
They should be okay providing the legs are in one piece...lol.

Then, I'd throw the whole board in a tray with the battery
acid neutralizer and see if that will save the board.
After you rinse it with water, let the board dry completely
and check the boar for broken, eaten away traces.

Bunker  It's called baking soda, pepsi or coke any of the three will work. I never tried any other soda pop but I'm quite sure they would work also.

You said you picked up some extra boards. Move the Game and Reel chips to a good board. Near as I can figure you have a clone to 5 Times Pay.

One of the members had told me that putting the board in the dish washer with
baking soda was the best way due to the hot water and high pressure.

Yes,
But it's not too hard to just clean the legs.
All you need is a bottle of Coca-Cola and an old toothbrush?
I'd drink about 3/4 of the Coca_Cola 1st....

Good catch Buzz. I was wondering why they would be willing to use a standard 5 times pay chip for a game that pays 100,000 coins ($25,000 bike) instead of the usual 15,000. Then I looked it up in our bible. 

You're better off tossing that SS7461 in the trash and buying a new chip anyway. It pays only 88.519% and worse, it has only one winning combination in 150³ stops (compared to the more common 90 stops per reel for 5x pay.) The only chip that has worse odds of hitting the top prize are the SS7462 and the SS8018 at 256 stops each. At least the SS8018 states that the top prize is 100,000 in the PAR; the other two are listed as only 15,000.

Rilaw, do yourself a favor and get yourself an SS7205 or an SS6271 -- unless you're planning on giving away a $25,000 Harley to one of your friends for 75¢.

Not to mention the 3,375,000 to 1 odds of winning the bike.  

Technically, the PAR sheet lists the top prize as 15,000, so with a top prize of 100,000 coins, the payback jumps to a whopping 89.359%. Woo hoo!

Who knows if they even paid for it? They might have struck a deal in exchange for showing it off and advertising it. They probably had to pay something for it once a customer won it, or possibly up front, but they probably were able to buy it at a reduced price in either case.

Having dealt with some pinball boards with battery damage, a 50/50 vinegar and water solution works well. However, getting all of the crud out from under the soldered in chips can be difficult. And the dried gunk is conductive so what you often end up with is a board that starts doing strange stuff intermittently. IMO, I would keep the board for parts and find another one.

OK, I have a bunch of spare boards now sooooo, do I just try and find the same chips on other boards and put them in one nice board (If i can)???

I however don't see anything wrong with the chips that have green legs.
Did you take it out and see?
I'd love to see a photo of the chip with the green leg before you clean it.
I'll bet it's only green where it exposed?

I agree with Bunker. The chips are probably fine and just need to have their legs cleaned. Even if the chips are bad, I doubt that you'd cause and problems on the good boards by putting the SP and SS chips in them; they just won't work.

I suggested a new SS chip because the one you showed us sucks. Not only is the top prize much less attainable than with an ordinary 5x pay chip, but so are all of the 5x and 25x multiplier pays, because each 5x symbol has only a 1 in 150 chance of showing up on the payline instead of a 1 in 90 chance.

Common batteries used in electronics, radios, flashlights, etc, are Alkaline, and must be neutralized with a mild acid like Vinegar and water.
Scrub your board with a Vinegar/water solution, rinse with water, scrub again, throw in the dishwasher for a cycle.
If any residue remains, scrub again, wash again.
If you have compressed air, blow out any remaining water from connectors and under chips.
A hair drier can also be used to speed things up, or let it air dry overnight.
Check for damaged etches and repair.
Coat any exposed copper with clear nail polish or other coating to protect from oxidation.

Plug it in and check for smoke!

Thanks, I thought that was the case with the batteries.  A light bulb went off in my head when I saw no reaction to a base.  I won't need to wash the board since I have spares, I will just toss it. Thx again..
