It's disappointing to hear that a state relies on gambling for their budget....>>>

Foxwoods Slot Machines Not Pulling Weight

Brick and mortar casinos are going to have to be creative.  As the economy continues to struggle, so do revenues at brick and mortar casinos.  Even though Sherman Bradley has revoked his own theory that online casinos are recession proof, online casino business continues to grow in the face of economic hardship.

Slot machines are the backbone of all casinos, whether you are talking about brick and mortar casinos or online casinos.  When revenues for a casinos slot machines stay on a steady decline it depicts a bleak summary of the casinos recent success.

This is the case in Connecticut.  The two major Indian casinos in the state have seen a steady decline in slot machine revenues that has continued through the month of October.  On a positive not, the decrease in revenue was less harsh as what they lost in the month of September.  As a matter of fact, September suffered a double digit decrease.  It remains to be seen how much money slot machines will yield in the month of November.

Both casinos of the Foxwoods brand suffered losses.  MGM Grand at Foxwoods and Foxwoods Resort Casino reported a net slot machine win of $57.1 million for October.  This is a 7.5 percent drop compared to revenues in October of 2007.

Mohegan Sun was not luckier than Foxwoods.  Their slot machines brought in more revenue but still constituted a loss compared to last years numbers.  Mohegan Sun brought in $65.4 million, down 9 percent from October 2007 numbers.

These losses affect the Connecticut state budget as these casinos pay 25 percent of the revenue from their slot machines to the state in tax.

The Mashantucket Pequots are Tribal indians.
They must pay taxes because they signed a tribal gaming compact to
have a casino named Foxwoods within the state of Connecticut.
When they signed the gaming compact - they relinquished all their sovereign native rights and
are no more Indian then a old polish woman living in a small studio apartment in Manhattan.

Basically it's a state loophole in the federal laws that allow the states to
operate a casino using the tribal Indians as billboards for their storefront operation.

The Mohegan tribe is the other tribe based in Montville, Connecticut.
They too, signed a gaming compact with the state of Connecticut
after they gained federal recognition in 1994.
The name of their casino is called the Mohegan Sun.

Several tribes through out the states followed suit and basically sold out all their native rights.
Most of the reservations consist of two bodies of people.
The tribal Indians (which get their pay from the state government every Thursday)
and the traditional Indians.

The tribal Indians basically kiss the governments azz
and pay taxes while the traditional Indians get zilch.
The state loved using this idea of a gaming compact to force
taxation on tribal Indians - in total disregard for the U.S. Constitution.

It is stated not once, but twice in the US Constitution that Indians are excluding from taxes.
The Gaming Compact was a way for the states to get that revenue from the Indians.
Of course, they maneuvered the strings on the tribal Indians which were employed by them...lol

There has been some recent developments on this whole fiasco lately as this was brought up>>>

"Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
That all noncitizen Native Americans born within the territorial limits of the United States be,
and they are hereby, declared to be citizens of the United States: Provided,
That the granting of such citizenship shall not in any manner impair or otherwise
affect the right of any Native American to tribal or other property."

This is throwing a wrench into the whole gaming compact system which was
devised sometime during , or shortly after the Nixon administration.
It is now wondered whether or not the states were acting legally with the tribal Indians.

Personally, I hope it all falls apart but the government will never allow it
because using the tribal Indians as a storefront - is way too lucrative...lol

You had mentioned this several times before. The state says to the Indians "If you want to play, you gotta pay". That's like selling a $25,000 Cadlliac car for $500.00 worth of coke to snort.............because............you want/need/are addicted/ to the coke. The others on the side who "won't play" don't get any coke but at least they have their integrity.

Yes reho,
I was trying to help out IFFV68 understand why certain Indians are paying taxes.
I just gave the Pequots and Mohegans as examples...
Many people don't understand the difference between tribal & traditional Indians.

The traditional Indians are the ones that don't break the
international treaties signed between the respective nations - I cannot however,
say the same for the states and the tribal entities.

When the states saw the opportunity to get taxation money by allowing the tribal entities
to make casinos via gaming compacts - they both jumped on it like flies on sh*t... lol
However, they haphazardly overlooked a few laws along the way
because of the dollar signs flashing before their eyes...lol

Okay, I'm still confused. If the federal government gave the Native Americans the right to run casinos on their own land, why did they need the states' permission? Couldn't they just tell the states to F#$% off and build them anyway?

We were only talking about the federally sanctioned tribal Indians that are employed by the states.
Tribal employees are no different than any other state employees.
They have to listen to the states they reside in.

They also have no rights to any land once they place their hands on the
bible and pledge allegiance to the United States.
Once they do that - they're lost all their native rights and are
no different than that old lady in her apartment in Manhattan.

It's been a long process of assimilation which still goes on to this day.
Traditional natives of this land do not place their hands on any bible.
They have their own laws, customs, and traditions which have long been here
before there was ever such a thing called United States of America...lol

Anyways, traditional Indians do have their own casinos and never asked any
US government for any permission to build them -
they don't need permission except from their own peoples.

The US really hates this because International Treaty laws supersede any federal or state laws.
They really hope the Indians don't get a whiff of this.
There's really nothing they can do legally to those traditional natives that choose to operate this way.
Furthermore, these particular casinos are not subject to nor fall under any US gaming commission.
Because these traditional natives are sovereign nations without borders,
they do not have to pay any state - anything.

No Buzz,
I went to school up in Canada.
Anyways, they segregated us into separate classes from the Catholics and Protestants.
They really didn't know what to do with us...lol
They knew our parents would take us out of school if they
enforced any religions on us or make us chant on any foreign books.
After all, we were born Mohawks...not Canadians or Americans.
In fact, several years later around 1970 or '71, the native parents
started their own native schools on the reservations for the kids.

As I got older, I went to a private school out near Boston.
Then from there, into an Ivy League school named Cornell University.
I fell in love with some girl and quit...lol
It was a total waste of money really...( yeah...the girl too...lol)
I had much more fun constructing skyscrapers and bridges.

I am constrained to point out that many Americans are not Catholic nor Protestant. Religion has NO place in the public school system in the U.S. Private schools are another matter, of course. (I do realize that you were in a Canadian school; you didn't mention whether it was public or not.)

What was your major at Cornell?

Well,
Public grade schools on the reservation when I was kid only had three
class rooms per grade and that's how they split it up.
The kids in the other 2 classes were always singing "Oh Canada" every morning
and then walked down the hallway carrying candles.
Of course we didn't didn't know what the heck "they" were doing.
I'm surprised they didn't have KKK hats on?!?!
Catholics, Protestants, and "us"...lol
The whole thing seemed pretty creepy to me when I was a kid.
I think they resented the fact that I was born in Virginia?!?! lol  jk
I don't think being born in Virginia had anything to do with it...
The native parents really controlled the heck out of that school in the 60's.
Like I said, the school didn't know what to do with "us"...lol
And we were the largest class in grade school!

Anyways, I was going for engineering in Cornell (Go Big Red!)
I hated the fact that they pretty much made me take all the same classes
I took in my last year of high school even though I graduated Cum Laude.
I had one other elective and I chose a welding course.
Needless to say, that course became very useful during my 20 years as an Structural IronWorker...lol
