A Riverside man has about 1.5 million reasons to be thankful this holiday season.

Lance York, 56, won $1,515,596.01 playing a video slot machine at Soboba Casino on Thursday.

York took home $75,000 and will receive annual payments of $75,000 for the next 19 years, said Soboba tribal information officer Mike Hiles.

Special to The Press-Enterprise
"I played for a long time on that machine," said Lance York, 56, who won more than $1.5 million Thursday while playing a $5 bet on the Wizard of Oz video slot machine at Soboba Casino near Hemet. York took home $75,000 and will receive annual payments for 19 years.
"Casino employees said it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy," Hiles said.

York has no plans yet to spend his winnings.

"I don't plan to do anything with it right now," York said in sign language as his mother, Nancy York, of Riverside, translated.

Lance York was born deaf. He and his family moved from New Mexico to the Inland area so he could attend the California School for the Deaf, Riverside.

In 1980, a drunken driver ran into his car, Nancy York said. "He was in a coma for six months. When he woke up, he was stuck with a wheelchair."

Lance York and his mother visit the Soboba Casino about twice a month. On the day of his win, York won the jackpot with a $5 bet on the Wizard of Oz video slot machine. In all, he spent about $100 playing, he said.
"I played for a long time on that machine. It kept paying enough to keep playing," York said.

Pity he cannot take all at once, $75,000 a year even 10 years time will be not worth much, it's a bit like some of the lotto's over the pond...................annual payment plus tax. Thank God for the UK lotto.................winner takes all and tax free. Won £10.00 last week and thinking about retiring from slots (probably a few of you wish I would) but the bad news is,,,,,,I am still here.  wave wave wave wave

cheers

Always nice to hear someone who really needs the money won.  applause   Sounds like this guy has been dealt more than his fair share of hard knocks.
Although, I agree that 75k per year is kinda sucky. Duh!

Interesting that its on a NEW machine.  (wonders if it can be tied into the Megabucks New resort rumor).
