Generally speaking, random 'freezes' of machines whether it be slots, pinball, etc. can usually be attributed to heat and/or a bad connection somewhere. The heat issue is the easier to identify. A connection issue can be anything from a wiring harness to IC pins. It can be time consuming to re-seat every plug-in item, but sometimes that is the only way to do it. A board with a leaking battery can also cause random problems as the acid can be conductive.
