I just got back from staying at Fantasy Springs Indian casino and had a chance to check out some of the new Game King machines and was impressed with the advances in software from the one that I own. So my question is... what would it take to put that software into my 1998, 13" monitor cabinet or is it impossible.
Thanks, Jim

It depends on what software you were looking at.  If it's 044 software I don't think the older 13" GK cabinets can be easily upgraded with 044 hardware to support it.  If it was 3902 based you can upgrade your software and MPU board (if necessary).

But basically to get it to have the newest GK games is impossible even with the 3902 software? Or is it? I saw GK's with slots with bonus rounds and keno like cleopatra keno whack gives free games if the last number drawn hits one of yours, stuff like that. Impossible?
Thanks, Jim

While we're talking about upgrades, I was real impressed by the advancement in Bally software. I also have a bartop Bally from 2004, Gamemaker 7000 I believe. What a difference between that and the new software. Any chance I could upgrade this?

That's Game King 4.3, it's EPROM based.  It will run on a 3502/2802/3902 board.  Look at your MPU board, if it has simm slots it's a 3902.  3802 and earlier boards didn't have them.

There is newer software you can run if you have a 3902 board.  Game King 5.0, 5.3, Super Times Pay poker, Multistrike Poker, Spin Poker, etc. These all use simms in addition to eproms.  Game King 5.0 has some newer Keno games and slots, but I'm not sure if it's the same as what you saw.

If the main menu had tabs for different games, slots, poker, keno, etc then it's GK 6 (or higher) and requires a 044 board.

Pardon my ignorance but what does a simm slot look like?

Here's a pic of the board. I think maybe it's a 3902 due to the long slots that are like ram slots. I guess they're probably what you're referring to. If so how many games per slot can you add and at what price per game?
Thanks, Jim

Yep, that's a 3902 board.  Sorry, SIMM stands for single in-line memory module, they are the three long sockets in your photo.  Instead of RAM though they hold flash memory simms.

IGT game software isn't memory slot dependent, you have one overall software version (or game) that uses the slots as necessary.  For instance Game King 5.0 which has poker, keno, and slots uses a base eprom, four game EPROMS (GME), a CGF Simm (goes in the horizontal simm socket under your sound card), two Pixel (PXL) simms, and one sound (SNDF) simm.  You have to have them all installed or it won't run (except for the sound simm).

Your sound board is an older EPROM based card.  For newer software you'll need one that has a single simm socket on it.

Simm based sound cards seem to sell from ~$25 to $40, software depends on title, but most seem to be in the $125 - $200 range.  Hope that helps.   Check with Jim @ Blueridge if you're looking for a particular software title, he usually has them in stock.

Thanks. How do I know which games come with which software package? If I could determine that, I would be able to decide which one I would like to upgrade to.
Thanks for all this good info, Jim

That is a good question.  Here's what I have for GK 5.0M (multigame) and 5.3P (Poker).  There may be other variants.

Short version...if you like Blackjack and don't want slots, you'll need 5.3P (which I have).  If you want slots and a lot of Keno and don't want Blackjack, get 5.0.

Thanks,
Jason

Is that all the games on the 5.0? I like the keno but would want more poker as well and at least one black jack. I don't know which software I have now but it has 59 games but it's mostly all poker 3 keno 2 slots and one blackjack.
I like the cleopatra keno and other things but... hmmm, is it wotrh it?

If you have it all, it's 4.3.  I'll be making a video of my 5.3P game soon.  I wish somebody would shoot a video of 5.0, because I've been kicking this version around too.

That looks like the cleopatra keno I was playing. Does it do the bonus twelve free games deal? Is there really only 15 or so games in the 5.0?

Oh yeah I see it. If I decide to switch, what is required and is it easy to switch back if I want to for any reason?

Yeah, it's easy to switch back.  You'll just need to swap the game chips and sound board out and set up your game options.

Awesome. Is it multi-denomination? The screen shot only shows .05. That's a deal breaker if not. I saw a machine that had the cleopatra keno and a caveman plus. Is that a different package?
Thanks, Jim

Does this software need a hi-resolution monitor? Mine seems clear and fine running 4.3. What do you think?
