I wonder how IGT honed in on The Mummy compared to the other Universal Studios Monsters?  It would have been cool if they would have created an entire series of individual slots to include Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Dracula.  I guess they did end up making The Phantom of the Opera, but that game blows in my opinion.  Talk about the ultimate collection if it had ever been realized.  I suppose Monster Mansion must have been the all inclusive solution later down the road.  If IGT would have released S2000 3 reel games of the Monsters, would you have collected them?

On a side note, Williams made two awesome pinball titles that I still love to play...Creature from the Black Lagoon and Monsters Bash which included the entire Universal Monster gang.  Monsters must have been a trend during that time.

Thanks,
Jason

I have boxes of old monster magazines from the 60s Creepy / Eerie and for monsters only ( lots of pictures in them). I'm working on some custom 3 reel machines that would be a great idea to have monster slots

I think that's an awesome idea.  Use Mummy software / DSV with custom glass and strips themed after the other characters.  I think IGT could have made a pile of cash selling that themed group to casinos back in the day.

I agree,
That would be a great series.

You're sure to find your favorite Universal Studios monsters in this 5-reel, 25-line game.  Featuring a scatter pay, "wild" Universal Studios Monsters™ symbol, and two frighteningly fun bonuses.
Lightning™ Bonus

    *
Select from the windows on the screen, each of which contains a value or a monster
    *
Continue to select windows, collecting the value of each, until all values or revealed or a monster is selected
    *
The bonus awards from 5 to 433 credits times the total initiating bet times the number of initiating lines

Monster™ Bonus

    *
Begins when Monster™ bonus symbol lands on reels 1, 2 and 3 of a played line
    *

    *
Depending on the movie title selected, a different bonus scenario comes alive on the screen, each related to the movie title

    *
Bonus game play continues until either a monster is selected or 5 rounds are played and no monster is picked

Brianzz, I think Yoeddy mentioned MM in his starting post. Under the Universal logo, they did The Mummy in a reel machine, Monster Mansion and Creature from Black Lagoon in video. Phantom of the Opera and Jekyll & Hyde were reel machines and would fit the "monster" theme but were not under the Universal logo. I agree that it would have been a nice idea to flesh out the monster theme a little more, maybe it was getting too expensive for licensing.

For sure, it would have been very cool if they would have created a series of the monsters in the reel slots much like the Wild Thing series with the 4 different lovely ladies.  But Dan your right...they pay a ton for the trademark rights.

Still though the Monster Mansion is one of the best 3902 video slots you can pick up...we're lucky to at least have that.  It's the only one that I know of that has the unique spin reels reels feature that are the opening and closing shutters on the "mansion" windows.

Agreed Jim.  I'm not a video slots guy, but that is a very unique game and has cool sounds.

Generally speaking Monsters in general are based in folk lore and are by definition public domain.

I don't think universal could trademark the Mummy and define royalty fees except as it pertains to specific likelyness of their characters or scenes depicted in the movies.
Ie I could easily create my own Dracula theme as long as it didn't resemble Count Chocula (from the serial boxes), The Count (from Sesame Street), Blade (Wesley snipes fanchise) or any of the other many movie Draculas.
I am really not sure why IGT and others are not more orginal as Brand recognition only can drive so much.....
