I have an IGT S+ (Double Diamond).  When bills are accepted, the machine will always cash them to the hopper.  Cannot get it to register them to credits.    Is this a problem?  or is it just the vintage machine I have does not have the ability to ring credits from bills??

We need to know what SP chip you have. If you don't know, follow these directions.

Once we know what SP chip you have, we can tell you if you need to change DIP switches on the MPU, or if it's done in the self test mode.

Using the instructions you provided, I found the following using the test button Selection 4:

00---    1048   (Game Type?)
--00     6326   (Reel Prom?)



Here is the PSR for the SP1048. Turn DIP switch 4 on the MPU on OR:

Bill Acceptor Pay Mode <0> [8]   This option can be changed only if DIP switch 4 is off.  Changes to this option are ignored when the credit type is noncredit.  The options are pay coins from the hopper {2}, convert bills to credits {1}, or follow the player-initiated credit {0}.  If set to follow the player-initiated credit, bills are converted to credits if the player has selected the credit mode, or paid from the hopper if the player has selected the noncredit mode.

Change it to 8_1 if DIP switch 4 is off. Make sure there are no credits on the machine before making any changes to the setting or DIP switch.

Excellent!  poppo Hail 

The instructions and document you sent were perfect.  After about 3 hours of getting lost in all of the various settings I found the Bill Acceptor Pay settings, and changed it from 2 to 0, and the bills now ring up credits properly.

ok, so during some troubleshooting, I started messing with the options, and I'm back to bills paying to the hopper instead of ringing up credits.    I know that option  Bill Acceptor Pay Mode <0>{8} is what fixed it before, but I cannot remember the sequence to get there and change it.  I need to set it to player initiated credit {0}.    can someone help me with the sequence to get to option <0>[8] and change it.   THANKS!    (Chip set is SP1048)

On a SP1048, (with no credits on the machine) press the self test button acouple of times until you get a zero in the coins played and 5_x in the winner paid. Then turn the jackpot reset key until you get to the 8_x option. Press the spin button to change it to 8_1 if you always want bills to go to credit.  Press the self test button to save the setting.

Once again, you saved me.   

I used your instructions to get to option <0>[8], but the Spin button was not lit and wouldn't allow a change.   Reading further, I found DIP 4 to be on, which disabled option 8.    Changed the DIP, and after a couple of 3100 errors, and reseating the MPU a couple of times, I got to  <0>[8] and was able to change it this time to  from 2 to 0.

..... I got to  <0>[8] and was able to change it this time to  from 2 to 0.

Keep in mind that 8_0 will have it follow the cash/credit button. 8_1 will always turn bills to credits.
