On the S+ machines it's located behind the hopper. Turn off the machine and pull out the hopper. You will see a silver box in the back with a big black knob. It pulls straight up and then out. That has the board in it. On the older machines it was located on the inside lefthand side. Let us know if you need pictures.

Hi, Welcome, The "bump up and down" is referred to as a nudge machine, your dad will likely need a clear and set chip after he has changed the battery (saft 14250 axial or tabbed), you may want to purchase them together and save on shipping, unless you already have them of course.

What area of the country are you located in?

Good luck,
Wayne

It sounds like you have an IGT S+
Do you have an Error 12 on the Winner Paid LED ?

The battery is on the MPU board....
To remove the MPU board - Open the door, turn off the power (power switch top right).
Lift the coin tray off the bottom.
Pull the hopper out. There is usually a handle on it. BECAREFUL as in addition to the coin in the hopper there is also a large motor on the back of the hopper and they surprize you as to how heavy they are.
Once the hopper is out you should see a tray at the back of the machine. There is usually a large black (sometimes white) knob. Grip the knob firmly and lift straight up.
The board will unseat its edge connectors (like taking a card out of a PC) and move up 2-3 inches. You then simply pull the board out of the machine.

Unless a home person has already made mods the battery is soldered on the board. There is a thread about how to change the battery to a battery holder so you can simply use AA's in the future.

Usually after you replace the battery you will get other errors on the machine that require a clear chip to bring it back to operation.
At the home page of the fourm there is RICKS FAQ's that will desribe the operation of the clear chip.

Secondly - the DBV (Dollar Bill Validator) will also no longer function - you need a SET chip to reactivate these. Again I will point you to Ricks FAQs on how to use one of these.

As it appears you are new to this world - WELCOME - and in addition to the info that I suggested you take a look at under Ricks FAQs there are a number of other good tips and tricks there as well.

The good news is you can probably pick up a new battery, set and clear chip from one of the many vendors listed on the home page for a reasonable price.

Keep posting back and let us know how you make out.
