I insert any bill, 1,5,10, 20,100 and it will take the bill in sounds like it is going through, then it sends it right back out. I have enabled the bill acceptor with my set chip already. When I first power the machine on, the bill acceptor cycles and goes through the process like all my other machines but the light to the outside never lights up and if I look on the inside of it, I see a red led light on. Any ideas here?

Thanks,

David

The key here is that it is not lit up.
You absolutely need to use the set chip to enable it and it sounds like you have done this.

You can disable the validator in the regular chip setup but it is more likely that  the Bill validator ID is not compatiable with your game.
S+ games came in ID 22/23 and this is dip switch selectable on the validator.

Let us know what reel chip you are running.
This will allow someone to send you a PSR and a PAR for your game.

PSR=Program Summary Report and show you all the features your game chip sets.
PAR=Paytable and Reel and tells you specifics about your theme.

If you need help identifying this see Ricks FAQs in the middle of the home page.
There is a way to step through the menus and get the game / and reel chip info without taking out your board.

I had luck cleaning the optics with a little water and q-tip and the magnets, full clear and then it started taking bills.

I would agree with this approach but the validator is not lighting up so its not active.
If it was lit then I would go down this road.

I would agree with this approach but the validator is not lighting up so its not active.

He stated in his first post that the validator takes bills in, then rejects them back out.  If the validator wasn't active, it wouldn't even attempt to take the bill in.  More than likely his bezel is unplugged or the lights are missing or burnt out.

This could be an issue of a validator that needs to be cleaned, or that it's set to the wrong ID.  For the purpose of testing, keep it simple and use just a $1 bill that is in good condition.

Also I think if the denomination is not set it will take the bill, but spit it back out. Also make sure the BV limit is not being exceeded. That will also cause it to take the bill to see how much it is and then spit it back out if it will exceed the limits.  This could especially be true if someone set up the denomination for a $.01 on a quarter machine or something like that.

Did it ever work? If not, make sure all of the BV DIP switches are off. And I would would double check the denomination and limits with the self test.

If it did work before, I would clean it including the transport belts.

Of course if you ahave another working unit it will make it simpler to swap things out and use process of elimination.

For the SP1271 you mentioned above, press the self test button until you get a 6 in the coins paid widow. The denomination will be in the credits display and should be 25. If it's zero, you need to set it with the set chip. I'm almost positive that just plugging in a set chip and poweing up automatically resets the denomination to zero and it needs to be reset. Be sure to press the self test one more time after setting it to save the setting.

Press the self test again and you will get a 7 in the coins paid window and a 1 in the credits and some other number in the winner paid. The winner paid is the limits for the hopper. Each press of the self test will increment the number in the credits as follows and you can check each one. <7> [5] would be of interest. Normally the BV will be totally dissabled once this number is reached. But if the credits is below that number, it will accept a bill first to see if it will put it over the limit and then reject it if it would.

Hopper Limit <7> [1]   Determines when hand pays and hopper pays occur.

Lower Jackpot Limit <7> [2]   Any single win over this limit causes the machine to go to a hand-pay condition.  For example, this limit must be set to 1,199 to lock up on 1,200.

Credit Limit <7> [3]   Determines the maximum number of credits that can be accumulated.
NOTE:  The EFT limit follows the credit limit.

Upper Jackpot Limit <7> [4]   This page is not displayed if the jackpot to credit option is disabled.  Allows some hand pays to be directed to the credit meter.  This limit is the maximum number of credits that can be directed to the credit meter.
Bill Acceptor

Credit Limit <7> [5]   Determines the maximum number of credits that can be accumulated before the bill acceptor is disabled.  This limit must be less than or equal to the credit limit, or a maximum of $3,000.

Zero all credits from machine..Do a clear and then follow with a set15.

Why zero the credits if you are going to do a clear? The clear is going to wipe everything anyway, just like putting the set chip in clears the credits.

Doing a clear 'might' fix the problem, but maybe only because something was set wrong to begin with. IMO one should exhaust all other options first. IF it is just a wrong setting, better to learn what to check the next time, then just doing a clear any time something doesn't work.

When I had this issue, it was because I had not properly saved the denomiation before poweing down the machine. So I thought I had set it when in fact I had not.

I agree with the do not do a clear till all else fails...But I have been down the road of where the validator is enabled, acepts bills..waits and returns them senerio many times.. The fix was a clear and set. We can go a few hundred more responces and never know like I did, or do the end result here. we are talking about a  1271. Not too many things to over look. But I agree with you Poppo !  Teach and learn. But this one seems to always end with the same result. If I am wrong...Sorry to interupt...But I don't think so in this case.

Your machine is broken.  Tongue Out  rotflmao

Maybe I'm lucky, but I've never needed to do a clear once, let alone many times.

I just did a set chip reset and went through and entered the correct numbers from above in the (7) menu section, still have the same problem, so I guess I have no other alternative other than a clear and set.
Why is it so horrible from what I hear on this forum, to do a clear, either on a S+ or a S2000?

What numbers do you see for <6> and <7> (1-4) when you go into the self test?

Why is it so horrible from what I hear on this forum, to do a clear, either on a S+ or a S2000?

Mostly because 99% of the time it's not needed, and then people find out their BV is no longer enabled and they don't have a SET chip.

I have a 25 on (6)
I have a 400 for (7-1)
I have a 9000 for (7-2)
I have a 9999 for (7-3)
From there it skipped to (7-5) and I have a 2000 on that setting

That all looks good. I guess you have nothing to lose by trying a clear since you can reset everything easy enough.

Are you sure the BV is enabled?

How to check is to press the test switch until you see

2 in Winner Paid, 1 in Credits and 0 in coins played
Insert jackpot reset key turn it a few times until the 2 changes to a 9
Credits display will display a 0 or 1 (0 is disabled, 1 is enabled)

Early on he said it takes the bill, but spits it out. If it was not enabled, it would not even take it.
