Model 400 "droP oPEn" error

I had this model 400 (non-dotmation) working fine, but now
i get this "drop open" error. i thought this was for a lower
drop cash door in the slot stand? any ideas how to clear this?

Check the group of wires in the lower right hand corner of the machine to see if any of the connecting plugs are touching the metal cabinet or each other.

I presume you've seen the following from the manual, but if not...  and yes, I'd think that the message is related to a switch in the base.  It certainly implies that there is wiring for and detection of that, but then they're so vague with their wording that it could mean almost anything...

Symptom	Probable Cause	Solutions
"drop oPEn" appears on Credit Display	1. Open Cashbox Door 2. Bad switch 3. Bad switch wiring 4. Bad switch cable 5. Bad switch input on I/O Board	1. Close and lock door. 2. Replace switch. 3. Rewire switch. 4. Replace interconnect cable. 5. Service input or replace I/O Board.

Earlier in the manual under "setup", it does say to "Attach the drop door connection to the drop door in the stand."  From that, I think when they say "cashbox" they're not talking about the bill stacker 'cash can'.  I guess I'd look for wires that were spliced together (that would have gone down to the base) that perhaps came undone.

if you open the cash box door it says that as Kevins post shows, usually the cam is not pushing the switch plunger up high enough, if you can pull the handle the cash box door switch is the culprit, not the lower end, if the handle is not energized then the lower wiring is the prob, (or the I/O board at any time)

The handle solenoid was not pulled in.
I found the problem though. The game was
sitting on some wires that poked through the
hole in the bottom of the game (the hole that
the line cord usually goes through, unless you
do the "drill the back" hole trick.)

These wires go to a lower drop door in the base
stand. the game locks up if the lower door is
opened (where the overflow quarter tray
resides). The wires were crushed by the game
shorting out to ground and giving the error.

Yeah that's the dumbest thing I ever heard Clay.... But until I remembered the time I had to change a
mother board on an S+. The new board did not work my BV. I worked on it 3 1/2 hours changing
my bill validator head then the transport then the whole assembly then the mother board again and
on an on. Then, you guess it the BV was plugged into the printer connection J13 instead of the BV
connection J6.
