I have a strange problem with programming the hopper limit and Bill acceptor limit. I program each for 2000 and it will retain that settings in the memory / program for a short period of time ( 1 or 2 days ) but then it always goes back to 0400 on both the hopper and credit limits, I have the SP872 chip on a S+ machine, dip switches 1 & 2 are in the on position. All other settings stay in the program I just seem to have trouble with these two Items. I do unplug the machine overnight but I don't think this should effect anything because all other settings are retained. Everything else works great with no issues.  Any thoughts ? Thanks   Scratch Head

How are you dermining that it is resetting to 400?

It may be possible that the MPU battery is low enough to be losing some settings, but not low enough to trigger an error 12. If you have a meter, you may try measuring the battery just to rule that out.

Also check your PM.

NO! not in this case !! Smart A**

Forgot about the dip switches allowing programmable mode when set correctly. Been a while since I played with an older SP chip.

I know something is fishy when anything over 400 credits start paying out the hopper automatically, then I will go into the programming and both both the <7> hopper limit and credit limits are back at 0400

It might also be possible that MPU DIP switch #2 is acting up. Since both 1 & 2 are supposed to be on for programmable mode, if #2 opens up (i.e. after the machine has cooled off) it may be resetting things to 400 when powered up (1 on and 2 off is 400 hopper limit). And since the BV limit can not exceed the hopper limit, it would reset too.  For my part time job, I work on radios that use the same type of dip switches for selecting frequencies and often they do exactly that. So you may try pulling the MPU and flipping DIP switch #2 on and off a few times to try and have it make better contact.
