Thanks for all the help on this matter, but now it will only play a game from the pull handle only. I can insert the coins, but the bet max or the spin reels wont work, plus if I hit a pay, it just dumps the coins.

Go back into the settings and change the [5-0] to a [5-2].
The Credit button will light up and save your wins to the "bank"...

Well the sp in this board is a SP875, if that won't work I do have an extra SP1271. I don't think I can access the (5-0) setting to change it to (5-2)

push the test button a couple of times to get the display to page [2-x],
then turn the reset key to get to sub-page [5-x], press the Spin button to change the "x" to a "1" or a "2"...
close the door and play until you get a win of some sort...
The win should light up the Credit button and save the credits to the "bank"

Doesn't matter if you have a blue knob or a pink knob or no knob.

bunker, I don't think that's correct.  a 0= standard credit mode, a 1= player initiated credit mode, meaning if you press the button before you play and you play within 30 sec. then all wins will go up to the credit meter.,if you press the button and do not play within 30 sec, the lite will go out and any wins will be payed from the hopper. a 2= player initiated noncredit mode, if you don't play within 30 sec. then it defaults to a credit mode.

every machine I own is set a 5_0 and goes to credit EVERY TIME I GET A WINNING COMBO.

as for the buttons not working, the spin button and the handle switch are in parallel. I'll bet you lost the chassis ground somewhere behind the bill acceptor housing, and that's why your optics and these buttons don't work.  the switches, bet max, spin, have the common leg of that switch going to chassis ground through the motherboard and that ground comes in P-10 pin 7 and is common to all the things you were having problems with.
If you own a meter, check continuity from the common leg of those switches to chassis ground. (with the power off of course.)

You're right Jim...
I wasn't looking at any PSR sheet or anything but I knew that his option settings on sub page [5-x] needed to be changed.
I was sure that I was wrong... face in palm  bust gut laughing
I wasn't allowed to be specific as to what value the "x" needed to be without seeing a PSR.  rotflmao
I should have checked the PSR for SP875 to be sure...
but I was in a hurry and had to get down to the floor and service an S+ for two money hungry ladies! lol
(Bloody hopper was jammed with coins shoved up under a knife.)
It's Friday the 13th and it gets hectic around here!
(That's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it...lol).
I was hoping to get him in the right direction at least.   propeller

A lot of people don't know that they need to turn the reset key when using
certain SP chips to get to the sub page. [5-x] on the Winner Paid display.  Professor

The lower numbered SP do not always show he sound options (2 X) In fact I looked at the 874 and 878 neither one have the 2 X setting

so look for the 5 X settings

Back at square 2, now the machine initializes, reels spin but the bottom light on the candle is flashing at a rate of @ 2 per second.I have my optics bypassed for now. I can remove the bypass and the machine can coin up from the white button on the coin comparitor and can play the game from either the spin reels, bet max or the pull handle. Also as someone mentioned before, when I coin up from the comparitor and attach the optics bypass, the credits disappear, which seems to be the coorect sequence. For whatever reason though it won't take a coin to play a game and the bottom light remains flashing.

Where those wire splices there when you got the machine.
Trace back the door optic wires to the purple/black wire yours looks to be black with a purple stripe and maybe if those splice connectors will let you check continuity between the splices to the connector.

Since you have the door open try just dropping a coin through the coin in optics
Just pull the coin comparator out of its clips and drop the coin into the optics.
If does not tilt, and the coin accepted comes on and the coins played changes as well then you are having an issue with the comparator.
a tilt will cause a 21 to show in the player display and the candle to flash.
Do a open and close door to clear.

This freakin' machine must be a real lemon, now I'm getting a 2 in the winner paid window after I power up, and it still won't take a coin. I tried dropping a coin through the coin optic area after removing the comparitor, same reults, did not accept the credit.

push the pseudo credit button (one on the coin optics) with the door bypass in place (as if the door was closed)
IT should tilt, if it does not tilt then something is not right.

I want you to test the door optic input (I want to know if the bypass is working fully.
you have to have the machine see the door open to access the tests but you will re connect the bypass during the test.
door open mode.
press self test until you see 1 in "coins played" and 10  1 in the "winner paid" display.
Now turn JP key until you get the 10  1 to change to 13  0
re connect the bypass (do not exit the test)
the 0 should start changing quickly between 0 and 1

I did that, step by step and it did what you said when I re-connected the bypass, the (0) changed back and forth as you said. It did give me a 21 error code when I pressed the psuedo credit button with the bypass on too.

After I tried the "bypass on and got the 21 tilt then cleared the tilt, the machine is working fine now. What fixed the problem there as far as it not taking coins and now it does?

Thanks again for all of your help on this machine as well as everyone else who helped me along the way on this nightmare machine.

From all of the problems you have been describing, it sounds like you may have a bad connection somewhere that is intermittent. Or like Jim mentioned earlier, a bad ground somewhere. If it acts up again, I would closely inspect every connector and re-seat them all.
