It'll take the IVC00224 but not keychip 45.  What can be the possible solutions?  I've tried swapping the motherboard and CPU.  I even took the CPU to a known working machine and it runs fine (takes clear and keychip).  I'm stumped.  Also the sg is 341 and sb is 100010.  Thanks.

The Key 45 is for an Enhanced S2000 MPU board with a legacy adapter board.  It that what you are using it on?

I've been told that keychips are backwards compatible and 45 is the newest, so that shouldn't be a problem. I use mine on all my S2000 machines.

If there are credits on the machine it will say Key Chip Access Invalid. If you are sure that you cleared all the credits then try the 224 clear again. Power up 3 times to make sure it's cleared and then try the key.

SG341 is for a  Vision game, but SB100010 is not a vision game (TRL LUCKY 7s, TPL RED HOT 7s. TPL STARS, TPL BUTTERFLY 7s).  In any case, I don't think a Key 45 will work with a Vision stepper game chip.  The PSR for SG341 does list the 224 as the correct CLEAR chip, not a key chip.

Sounds to me like you got the numbers mixed up.

I wonder if there are credits on the machine. that will cause a key chip menu access failure every time.

Well, if he is using a 224 then he is totally clearing the machine first, so no credits.

Then if you clear it, you should not need to do key chip as well as long as you do not close the door anytime after the machine is cleared via the clear chip.

Clear the machine with clear chip keep door open do not close it even with power off.
Then go right into the key menu or at least try without the key chip first as soon as it finishes booting (remember the door must remain open)

Supposedly IGT does a clear or such and powers it off so that when it first powered up at the casino they can go into key chip menu, to configure it for the floor without grabbing the key chip.

Oh heck, I don't know, I sold the machine to my boss. You're saying newer key chips may not be backwards compatible to ALL s2000 chip versions?

Foster Simple truth is it don't work !! Here's what I did. cleared the machine with a clear 97, got my two led's lit. Installed the SB100095 base, powered on and waited for boot up. Got ram error, turned key three or four times. got press reset button for three seconds, got close door.   All the same steps as if I had installed a key chip, ( which I didn't )  Has SG000523

DAMN  I forgot,  Blueridge I did this clear for testing purposes only, please forgive me.

Your just trying to get me stirred up aren't you ?? You know what I think of those instructions. The problem is folks believe this crap and pass it on to others. Someone wrote it, it must be true.  BS

Not counting Barcrest or Vision's ( not 100% sure on 5 reel machines )  I will repeat myself a CLEAR 97 and A KEY 31 will work in every damn machine I've had. ( right now today I have about 50 S 2000)  I don't care what the PSR says, I don't care which SG chips you have or which SB chips you have. those two chips are the only ones I have to use.  Why would I want to dig out a PSR every time I need to clear and key a machine, when I don't have to.

While were here let me say, I have never installed a good set of SG chips in a machine that will not work !! To be clear the machine doesn't care what the SG numbers are used, as long as both chips have the same number.  Sure you might not get Multi denom or the display will look different, but the game will PLAY>

I bought 50  S 2000, all but two of them had/has SG000155 game chips. Someone must not have told IGT about PSR as they put the same game chips in all the machines. One of those 50 is a machine that this thread is about, a Triple Lucky 7s  and it's one of the machines that doesn't have  SG000155,  it has SG000129.

My turn to do a clear then see what happens 1270 mpu, 598 game, 11GX1 version

I used a 97 clear all I have.
IT definitely wiped the machine and would only let me set the account and coin denom without using the key chip.
locked the player denom to accounting denom or the minimum since I used 1 cent as accounting denom.
used the key 31 to fix the rest of the key menu stuff.

My suggestion would be pull the ram or battery for ram depending on which board you have (50x boards RAM 1270 battery)
then pull the eeprom off the motherboard and use programmer to either clear it with 00 or FF not sure which would work the best.
I did that when I first got the 1270 since I only have the 97 clear.

Now to fix my printer information

I just had another thought on RE-Virginizing a machine... If you can get to it easily enough remove the little E2 chip from the motherboard. (You know the little bug looking small 8 pin serial eprom.) Go to Mouser or DigiKey or one of those outfits and buy yourself a few big tubes of those little buggers, they run about $0.30 a piece. Thile you are at it grab a bunch of the little 8 pin sockets (super cheap too!) to put the new chips in to make for super easy installation and removal! Then when you install a new kit just put one of these little buggers in and WHAM you got yourself a Virgin!!! Hail I never bother on S2000s, but I have done this process with iGames, I only have a few MPU boards, but after I have everything all set up and working, and I decide to change the games, I just take out the programmed E2 and put it on the static protected foamy stuff with the eproms for the next time that I want to install that game. This is INCREDIBLY nice for Game King Multi Game Sets that have all kinds of setups for all of the games, settings, and paytables, denominations, etc.. I plop in a new one for new game sets that I get, configure it once from scratch, and then it is good to go! Like a Virgin, for the very first time! Jeannie Jeannie Jeannie

Just a thought, and I think it would work...

I can not take credit for this idea, some other wonderful member here came up with the trick... I think it was Tilt, Scratch Head but if I am wrong about who it was, sorry! stir the pot / get cooking

The 24C16 is already socketed on the S2000, I Game.
IF you have a programmer that supports the 24C16 you can clear it easily enough.

What's the board location on that chip? I've got 2 spare 960 boards and U4 is socketed while U1 and U2 I think they are, are soldered in

24C16 is located on the motherboard I can only list the 50x motherboard location.
I do not know the 1270 location without taking parts out of my machine.
U2 on the 50x motherboard.

These are 960 boards for 502, 504 MPUs, so it's the U2 chip, correct?

Foster,

I know it is socketed, but it makes it much much much much easier to install and remove when you put your new chip in a new socket, and plug those into the soldered in socket on the Motherboard.

Yes you can just erase it, but then you will not have one for each game already set up for when you reinstall the game back into the machine. Does not make as much sense for the S2K (Unless you change kits and underwear like Jason! Just Kidding ) as they are a little hard to get to as compared to a GameKing or iGame machine, and there are less settings on an S2K as opposed to a 59 game family MultiGame Poker setup for example. Think about not having to setup you ticket printer site information every time you change back to a previously installed game, or other things... Just my thoughts.

I keep the setup between themes the same
I do not worry about any stats (Oh I might do a quick look now and then) but not that I record anything for long term use.

So a game change for me is simple other than the glass, strips and base chip change.
Clear the Base chip tilt.
Go to the Vista Computer and click a button on the SIM so the machine can be played (there is a tilt that shows up)
Adjust sound stuff if needed sometimes only the game and money volume, and other times re-enable enhanced sounds
Load credits from SIM and play.

That is a tight fit in there but I can do it.
