I have a Tabasco S2000 that upon powering the slot on, the display blinks "displays netplex link is down" and won't cycle for game play. Having said that, I can turn it off then back on again and it goes through its normal delay, then cycles and is ready to play. What could be causing this problem?

Thanks,

David

good chance the power supply behind the reels is on it's way out....try swapping one from a known good machine.

What could be causing this problem?

my experience with this error on S2000 games has been with bad DC switching power supplies as well.  we "revive" about 85% of them with this error by shotgunning the electrolytic caps; many of these have been back on the floor for years now.  yes  if you open your power supply up you will probably see one or more of the caps with raised dome tops instead of normal flat tops; those are bad caps.  caps seem to be less tolerant of cooling off periods so frequent powering off for extended time may have shortened the life of the caps.  here's a list of the caps that we change with every power supply (Win-Tact model WP203F11) we pull off of the floor, i recommend changing them all since you'll probably have it die again soon when one of the caps you didn't change dries out. frying pan  if you have a different model power supply you can just shotgun all of the caps you can find.  i think i figured we can replair them for about $13 per kit when i buy in quantity, to build one kit it will probably cost you around $20-$25 from Mouser or DigiKey <-- just a guess, i haven't priced them.  also keep in mind that it's OK to increase an electrolytic caps voltage but don't change the microfarads.  a 100uf/50v cap can be replaced with a 100uf/100v cap as long as it will fit on the board but do not put in a 150uf/100v cap or you will probably see some adverse affects like incorrect voltages or smoking components.  good luck!!
