I have a small problem with a 3 reel 1 line Double Wild Cherry  S 2000   I was using the machine for a test stand testing some IO boards I had bought ( the machine played fine before I did this ) One time when I turned the power on I think I heard a electrical arc.  Bottom line is when I was all done with the testing I needed to key the machine. Installed the key chip and everything went as normal. got the horn, press reset button, close door, all the normal things. Now it gets interresting, when the reels spin on boot up and it goes to key config, the reels spin backward. I don't mean right to left or left to right I mean from bottom to top. Looking at the reels from the handle side of machine the reels spin CW. Now the display says key config but none of the button lights lite up and will not let be do the key set up.

I was tempted to leave this post as is and let the guessing begin, but I just can't.  I replaced the MPU and the machine now plays as it should.  I don't have a clue as to what I did to that board. I looked at it with a mag. glass and don't see anything wrong.  ( good thing I have plenty of spare boards.)  Well I did have this is about 9 of them that gets marked NFG this month !!

Moral of this story is. If it ain't broke, leave the door closed !!  ( cheaper that way )

I had first wondered if the stepper driver chips could have been damaged, but it seems unlikely that all three would fail in such a specific way. Maybe there is a component on the board that fried and has switched the polarity of the voltage being sent to the drivers, causing them to turn the reels in the other direction? Scratch Head

Just out of curiosity Buzz, are you using the same IO board that was in it when it failed or did you switch them back?

David I did all a couple of weeks ago, and today I figured I would give the MPU one more try.  NFG was the results.

B  I think it was a cabnet IO but I'm not 100% sure, I had about 15 IO to test.

Rob   I don't know, every IO I tested that day tested good.  Maybe that wasn't a arc I heard.

I think the real reason I even posted all this was to make a point that damn near everything posted on this site is self inflected.

I was wonderin' because awhile back I was dickin' with my door IO cards and burnt my meter board, a power supply and the damn IO card. I'd changed the door harness that day too, so I couldn't nail it down to specific cause. Threw the meter board out and changed the IO card and PS to fix it. Just another WTFK I guess?

I think the real reason I even posted all this was to make a point that damn near everything posted on this site is self inflected.

That's not too surprising, is it?

The type of person who would buy a machine, and simply want to have it work and look pretty in the living/game room wouldn't frequent NLG. He would post once or twice looking for help if the machine broke down and then go away once it were fixed. We do have those types of posters.

People who are on here all the time -- aside from professionals* and small casino owners -- are weekend tinkerers. It's no different than the guy who spends more time working under the hood of his car than he does driving it. Kit swapping, changing from three to five reels, adding progressives, trying to get SAS up so that tickets can be fed into the machine, toppers, lighting, and on and on it goes. It's inevitable that people are going to break their machines or experience new problems when they're always pulling them apart.

Buzz, when you put the reels in gear, was there a "D" in the display window or was it in "R"?

Kidding aside, I have seen the no lights scenario with Key Config showing on a few occasions after I do a clear/key when switching games.  Not sure what the hell causes it, but my assumption was that I wasn't letting the clear "do it's thing long enough" or I was powering on or off too fast...as strange as that may sound.  When I clear, I run the following sequence of voodoo 4 times and I've never seen the problems again on my same board.

I power on, I let the amber lights come on, and I count to 15.
I then power off and count to 30.
Then I finish up the rest of the process with the key chip and settings.

Anyway, just for the halibut, did you try to wipe and reload the screwy board?

Jason  I did put the bad MPU back in today just to see.   I don't remember if I did a clear or not, If I did I couldn't tell you about it. Blueridge has all ready told me, if I do another clear he's going to cut off my Left testicle.   I mean I could live with that, but the right one would get lonely.    hissy fit hissy fit hissy fit

Roger that Buzz.  Always protect the schnutz!  I was just thinking since the new board cured it, as a last resort, may as well try it before sending it to the trash.

Buzz, fist of all, I know that you're just BS-ing.  Crazy

Still, you have to interpret those figures correctly. We don't have an average of 633 registered members online per day. We have that many unique visitors. Most of those are spiders and web crawlers for sites like Google, MSN, Yahoo, etc. Many more are guests who silently browse and go away. For example, as I type this, the site lists 350 online users, but only 62 of those are actually registered members.

In addition, it depends on how Joey sets the definition of "online". Before the small crash on the new site, it used to be 24 hours; now it's four. That means that when you go to bed, if you don't actively sign off, you'll still be considered to be "online" for four more hours while you sleep, and you'll be online for an extra four hours every single time you stop posting and go off to work on your machines. In the past (with the 24 timeout), members who checked in at least once per day and who didn't actively log off were never considered to be offline.

Yes, we may have over 3800 registered members, but only about 1900 of them have ever posted ANYTHING. In other words, at any given time, about half of our so called registered members have never participated at all. Many of those are spambot accounts which were never "triggered" for some reason. Some only spam by putting links in their profiles, but without attempting to post. Those accounts usually remain unless we happen to notice them.

Of the half that have at least one post, more than half of those have 5 posts or less. In fact, the last time I checked (last month) only one third of the half that have posted had more than 10 posts. So two-thirds of our "active half" have 10 posts or less. Many of those are people who needed help one time and then never came back, and they form the group that I had mentioned earlier. Some only posted once so that they could play in the arcade.

Finally we have the last (roughly) 1/6th of the membership who have more than 10 posts. Even many of those members were not tinkerers and were only here to solve one problem, or a set of them. The small group that is left are the active members. Take away the pros, the vendors, the gaming employees, and casino owners, and you have the tinkerers.

As of 6/9/2011:

The top 24 posters accounted for just over 50% of all of the posts.
The top 48 posters accounted for 2/3 of all of the posts.

Put another way: 24 posters posted half of everything on here, and 1,851 posters posted the other half. arrow frying pan Tongue Out

Remember about a month ago I had that bad MPU board with the blown chip?
That had blown because I tried to install a 3 reel w/bonus reel harness into a 3 reel driver board.

Now that you've mentioned your reels spinning backwards - that's what mine was doing at the time!  Duh!
When I got the correct reel driver board and replaced the burned out MPU - the reels turned correctly downwards afterwards.

If it's repeatable, then we need someone knowledgeable in electronics to look at the schematics and figure out which component(s) is/are blowing when this happens. stir the pot / get cooking

I have only been a member sense  Oct 2010 . I found this site  about 6 months after buying my first 2 s2000 machines . They were to be Christmas gifts for my mom and dad and also my aunt  I went to Vegas twice a year for over 20 years. i always played craps my (faverite) or table games sometimes tournament poker . Slot machines seamed to slow and boring. Then i had the first  two machines delivered to one of my local wholesalers. when i got them home and made sure they were a clean and sparkly so i could deliver my gifts to these very special people.  I turned them on to see how they worked and I GOT IT  the slot bug. my wife   hit a 10x 10x 7  on a ten times pay . we have had so much fun i could not give these first 2 machines up so i bought 3 more then 3 more then 5 more my current count is i have 15 for me  and gave 5 away as gifts This site has been a invaluable source   of INFORMATION and ENTERTAINMENT . I have contributed in $$$ to this site and gave generously towards the raffle   THANK TO THE BUZZ BONUS. I now can comfortably work on my own machines because of this site and the many helpful members on here. i am a very skilled  mechanical tradesman and i thank my dad for that.  but the slot machines are not just mechanical the electronics  were a new experience for me. so put me down as a very humble tinkerer and a loyal NLG member  thanks to all that have helped in the past and the one that will help again in the future  Clap Clap Clap. As always, there are multiple sides to any argument.

First, the short answer: If you feel that someone who should know better is asking a redundant question and it's pissing you off, just ignore the thread.

It certainly seems to be true that some members don't bother to search for previously posted answers to their problems before starting new threads, and we often do seem to answer the same questions repeatedly. However, IMHO politely answering these questions for each member is part of what makes this site different from other forums. Most forums would snub the poster and tell them to "go search," along with some name calling thrown in.

At least when we refer posters to previous threads, we often include a link to help them out. Of course, there have been members who seem to abuse this practice, who have clearly been around long enough to know their way around the forum, and who still persist in asking questions without bothering to search for an answer first. Eventually, the membership makes sure that the member gets the message, hopefully through tactful means, and not with rancor.

On the other hand, our search function SUCKS, plain and simple. If the search is for an unusual word that is longer than 5 characters, one might get a decent response. In many cases, it simply doesn't return a useful recordset, even when using the advanced search screen. However, before all of you non-searchers out there glom onto this fact as an excuse for not searching, using a Google search in addition to an internal NLG search usually proves fruitful.

For those who don't know how, simply append "site:newlifegames.net" to your Google search to limit it to NLG. For example, you might type [igt s+ OR splus OR "s plus" "won't take coins" site:newlifegames.net] which will return about 6 results. If you remove the quotes around the phrase "won't take coins", you'll get over 1700 results.

One can also simply browse through the older topics on the board or boards which most closely match the question they have.

Finding previously posted answers to questions isn't really that difficult.

I had to replace the MPU board...nothing else really.
