Hi everyone, my first post here.

How does Karma work on this board? I can't seem to find any FAQ or guide about it.

Thanks, Zebidee

rotflmao  Well after you have a Karma score of 100 you get a free slot machine supplied by Joey  bust gut laughing

Actually, other members can decide to increase or decrease your Karma rating based on your posts.  If you are pleasant and helpful then you can bet it will go up....you get the idea.  You have the ability also to increase or decrease someone's Karma.  Take a look next to my I.D. here to left you will see my Karma rating and an up/down arrow.  Feel free to practice by hitting the up arrow a few times.

I think you need to have 5 posts before you can leave karma.

OK, that makes sense.  BTW, I like the idea/principle.

Sooooo ..... do you get more karma points to allocate depending upon the number of posts you make?  I image that there must be some usage-based limit to how much karma points one collects and doles out.

Hello and welcome!

You can only leave 1 good or bad karma per person every 12 hours.  BUT, you could leave every single member one every 12 hours if you wanted to.

Heh, I suspect that would be all I'd be doing for 12 hours as well! Cheesy

It appeals to the Buddha in me.  Of course, Buddhists mostly need to wait until the next life to redeem their karma points.  Thank God I don't have to wait that long on this forum Wink

If you're ever near Brampton, Ontario, then let me know, you'll have a free (Canadian)beer waiting, that's like drinking 3 of yours.

Hey, thanks for all the welcomes folks.  Wishing all of you good Karma.

I'm from Australia, so the beer here is pretty strong - especially the stuff we make at home! All folks are welcome to a beer here, so long as you enjoy playing or tinkering with arcade games.

I'll have to get on a boat to go over and check out the Canadian stuff.    CaptainHappy  cheers

The Canadian Stuff is on par with the Ozzi brew, we import Fosters here.
Belgium still has the best.

Oh Crikey, I hope the Canadian beer is better than Fosters.  The reason why we export Fosters is because no-one is Australia wants to drink it.

We have many brands of beer that are better than Fosters here, The only imported beer I drink is Dos Equis XX (I think thats how it's spelled) which oddly enough is Mexican.  A nice cold Molson's Canadian goes down good.

Thanks,

Generally I drink a local Carlton Draught or Melbourne Bitter, maybe a Reschs (if in a good New South Wales pub) or a Cooper's Ale (anywhere, but especially in South Australia).  Cooper's is a great Aussie beer that I highly recommend.  Brewed in the bottle, so make sure you turn Cooper's upside first otherwise you waste the flavour.

Imported beer generally only gets drunk when one of my mates turns up with a fancy-looking six pack. But I'll keep a lookout for that Mexican one.

How come I don't have any Up or Down arrows on my karma when I look at it? I guess that's so you don't increase or decrease your own?

Zebidee,

Looks like you like "Crazy Climber".  I own one of those machines and even started to write an editor to mess with the ROMs so I could create custom building layouts etc.

That's pretty cool, but just changing the building graphics also affect gameplay?  Or is there a "map" of where the climber can go?  I have an original arcade board of that game too, complete with Home-made Jamma conversion.

There is an internal map of passable/impassable areas, windows and other events.  Changing just the graphics would do no good to affect gameplay.  My screenshot "paints" the building using those internal layouts.

I used to play Crazy Climber in the arcade, I had the top score on that machine for as long as they had it.

Thanks,

I don't remember any security checksums.  Pretty sure my changes were allowed.  I can try to find all my notes if you or anyone is interested on the memory layout.

Pretty impressive hacking!

I played crazy climber a few times, but it was never an obsession or anything for me.

My real reason for choosing that avatar was because it reflects deep ideas like "I can keep trying a bit harder, a bit harder"
(but the avatar never really finishes his/her climb or gets anywhere, so it is a bit ironic ... or perhaps defeatist ....).

I've got a few classic PCBs, but mostly I keep them under bubble wrap in storage and play my games with mame (I have both horz & vert cabs in-house).
I also have a 48-in-1 PCB currently in a vertical lowboy cab in the shed. Can't remember if it has CC on it.  Scratch Head
