This is probably a dumb question....but what the heck. propeller

About 9 years ago my wife and I went on a cruise where we played the dot matrix WMS "Big Bang Piggy Banking" for the first time.  About 5 years after that I decided to buy it and found it super cheap, or so I thought, at $625.  I remember bringing it home turning it on for the first time and being disappointed because it seemed to be missing something...at least from what I remembered.  I have been wracking my brain about this for years. Duh!

You all know how during play the Piggy does some silly antics up in the dot matrix box.  For example a feather lands on the pigs nose and he/she lets out a big sneeze....  Well I distinctly remember the Pig during an Elvis impersonation of some kind on the machine I played on the ship and it was the first thing I looked for when I got my machine home...well it just does not do it.  So question is  Scratch Head am I remembering wrong or was there different versions of this game out there based perhaps on local market????

I thought maybe my memory was just bad, but I asked my wife yesterday about it and she said "oh yeah...I remember that...how come your machine doesn't do that?".  Well my memory is horrible and I can forget somebody's name 2 minutes after I meet them....but my wife has the memory of an elephant which makes me think that maybe I am not completely crazy...  arrow

Anybody out there have any insight on this???

Thanks.

Yes there is more than one Version of the Top Box Graphics, did your machine you have come from AC NJ?, those I believe always had the graphics that didn't have the cool things like the X-Ray and Feather

My wife's Big Bang Piggy Bankin' (came from Ottawa) does the Elvis impersonation, which is good since she's a fan (well, we both are really).  You could upgrade yours by doing a "software" change which involves changing the eproms and clearing with the correct denomination key/clear chip.

Good luck,

Hah!!!  Thank you all for confirming...I remember my wife and I laughing our azz off at that game on the cruise with the Elvis Pig....sure it had more to do with the 2 bottles of cheap wine we downed with dinner... bust gut laughing

Would love to get my hands on a set if anyone out there has everything I would need to make the change.

My machine was built in 1999 in Chicago...it has the Feather, X-Ray, Butterfly on Nose, Popping Pig...maybe something else can't remember.

Thanks again...K+ to you all.

it's the rom in the top box.. WMS got sued by graceland and was ordered to remove the ELVIS PIG from the game..   graceland had no sense of humor.

This is just flat out wrong and at best, "urban legan."
I know the guy that worked at wms and that did
the DOT programming for Piggy Bankin and Big Bang.
If you would like to ask him directly, his name is Scott
and he now works at LED in chicago.  He doesn't
answer email very well, but you can always ask Duncan
(also at LED), since they had cubes next to each other
at Wms during this era. Apparently Duncan was driven
crazy by Scott and the development of these two Pig games.

ALL the animations are random. And there's 100's of
them. You could play regular Piggy and BB Piggy and
not see the Elvis animation for days of continuous play.
Both regular Piggy (there's only ONE version) and Big Bang
both have Elvis. And there's only one version of each
game's DOT software.

But generally speaking, you will see Elvis more often
on Piggy Bankin than on Big Bang Piggy Bankin. The reason
is simple, there's way more animations in Big Bang (it
uses twice the dot ROM space of Piggy), so the
chance of seeing the Elvis animation is much reduced
due to the sheer number of animations the game has
to choose from.

FWIW, I've never seen the Elvis animation on my Big Bang game, but I've seen all the other animations dozens of times (archjds - one you forgot was the "flashbulb" camera animation where the pig gets blinded after his picture is taken).

I have the Big Bang Piggy Bankin round top and mine does the elvis and all the other ones as posted here.  I have had it going on a couple years now.  I do not play it that much but it's still fun when I do.  Thanks B.

I talked to duncan and scott today about this, to try and
get the facts right from the guys that did the DOT animations.

Piggy was a Telneas game. So when Wms lost the Telneas
patent, they could no longer sell games using Telneas (like
Piggy). Since Piggy Bankin was their #1 selling game up till
that time, they didn't want to abandone the franchise.

So scott did Big Bang Piggy Bankin. This did not use the Telneas
patent. But they added another bonus game to it. This was
done for a couple reasons.  The primary reason was Piggy Bankin
was "rapable". That is, much like Xfactor, when the game got
just short of 30 coins in the bank, you *knew* the game was
getting ready to pay off. Xfactor had the same thing, that is
when it got to 9x you knew 10x was right and ready to pay off.

So to do away with this, they made the "break the bank" feature
a much smaller part of the game (unlike the original Piggy).
That is, you could not win a ton of coins in break the bank.
All the coin winning were shifted to the roulette wheel style
bonus game.

Ok now what about Elvis?  Did Wms get sued? the answer is
NO they did NOT get sued, nor even threatened. BUT wms was a
bit "gun shy" about Elvis, seeing how they just lost the Telneas
patent. So not wanting to go through that again, The Elvis
animations were left out of Big Bang Piggy Bankin. At least that's
what Scott remembers.

So in summary:
Piggy Bankin (all versions) have Elvis.
Big Bang Piggy Bankin (all versions) do NOT have Elvis (so says Scott).

So that begs the questions... PwrStroke claims to have seen
Elvis in Big Bang.  So PwrStroke we need your EPROM versions
which are available through the diagnostic button on the
board door.

PICs of big bang elvis would be good too!

FWIW, they brought back the Elvis pig in part with the video slot "Rich Little Piggies" -- as I recall, one of the symbols is the Elvis pig.  This slot also has a lot of the original sounds and music from Big Bang Piggy Bankin'.

I can positively state that my wife's Big Bang Piggy Bankin' has at least one elvis on it ( I kinda think there's two).  Perhaps Barry's machine came from Canada also.  I'll see what I can do about capturing the elvis pig in action.

Thanks,
Wayne

I am going to upload a video to youtube then post it here.  The file was much bigger than I thought so I may have to edit it.  check back later or tomorrow.

I believe Jim said he has both versions.  I'm not sure if you would just need the top box eproms, or everything.

Thanks,
Wayne

The video starts with the x-ray then hits a big bang, then in a little while elvis makes his appearance. Video may still be processing. I hope the quality is good, it was 110mb.

Enjoy,
Wayne

I had hoped for some Elvis jokes.  Williams may have tried to kill him off, but we all know he's alive!
