My Big Times Pay now says "Displays netplex Link Is Down" but it goes right into Display passes self test" and boots up no problem.
However, the sound is acting strange. When you hit Big Times PAY, it says 'PRESS THE SPIN BUTTON" over and over again until you press the button. Normally, it says it only for 1 minute, then spins itself. Also, the sound is really bad when you hit anything at all. The sound stops early and sounds bad, kinda like a short static pop. The sound is fine if you don't hit a winning combination??
I changed out the power supply & the MPU with no change observed....   Any suggestions?? Help

I would reseat the SIMM and MML board.  If you have extras, test another MML board and SIMM.  The game will still play without the SIMM and MML too.  You'll just get default IGT sounds.  Might remove them altogether to see if anything changes.

Yep, tried different simms, mpus, sound card, same thing happens....
Could a wire plugged in the wrong spot cause this? I swapped out the reel tray with another s2000 and found a bunch of shabby wiring in the Big Times.
Some I just guessed at where they went. The wiring in my Big Times is a mess, chopped off wires wound with tape, etc. ( Bought it that way )
The manual is useless for making sure all wires are in right. Am swicthing Big Times to 5 reel tomorrow, so I need to figure this mess out....

Thanks

Boy, if the wiring is that bad, testing out new wiring harnesses might be in order if plugs and connectors are solid connections and clean.

I'm not saying that is your problem but if you want a game in decent condition
you don't want a bunch of bad wires that will keep giving you problems.

My Nexplex down was a bad power supply.
Good luck with the wiring.

 Agree with Post

especially if your wiring is jacked up and you had to take a few guesses when hooking up the amp board.  good luck!
