EPROM DATA... HELP!!!!!!!

Ok, one for you pros! My PE+ has been giving me this intermittently for a while. Press the self test button good to go. Today I wanted to play a little as I had to wait to pick someone up and I can press the self test til I'm blue in the face and can't get past this screen. Is it a bad data chip? Bad processor board? I have NO idea, and OF COURSE the spare board I do have has a dead battery so I can't do anything with that either. If it is a board problem is it something simple, I'm GOOD with electronics and pretty handy with a soldering iron should that help any with this issue... Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks guys

I thought on PE+ to reset the eprom error you turned the jackpot reset key

On mine all I had to do was push the test switch as this happened intermittently over the past few months (though I hadn't played much). I did try the jackpot reset as well, just brought up the game statistics

Quick update, tried 2 other game sets. One superboard set and one older solo set. No dice, same deal. Cant clear the "EPROM DATA" error. I'm thinking either the superboard or motherboard? Any other suggestions? Also if I do need one or the other if any of the vendors have them please post. Thanks again!

Check the e16/e17 jumper.
E16/E17 must be on E16 for standalone games.

Yep, moved the jumper when I put the solo set in. Of course I did forget first and everything was whiteish and blurry. Moved it where it belonged and still got the same unclearable "EPROM DATA" error

It is possible the EPROM on the backplane has gone defective.  Do you get both a "Door Open" and "EPROM DATA" message on the screen?  The self-test button will not activate with the door closed (i.e. bad door sensor). 

Worse case you can pull the CMOS RAM to clear its contents and let the PROGRAM chip reload defaults.  If you get past the CMOS DATA error your door is working, if not you probably have a sensor issue.  If you get past the CMOS DATA error and still can't get past EPROM DATA, I would suspect the EPROM on the backplane.

That must be what it is then. I did pull the RAM to try that thinking maybe that was corrupted. No good, I can get past the CMOS DATA with no problem the EPROM DATA I just can't get past and I get no door open msg, the door optics are OK. So the EPROM is on the motherboard itself? I guess it'd be easiest to just replace it, a few screws and move the wires. If any vendors on here have one for a PE+ upright please let me know. Is the old one repairable? Is it soldered on or just in a socket? Either way I could probably do it (if it's doable) and hopefully have a spare. Thanks for the info Stol! Much apprecaited! Pretty easy to unsolder the old chip, solder in a socket and then add the eprom chip.  As I recall from a couple years back the only technical part was finding the replacement chip.  Might still have an extra chip in one of my stands if you run into problems locating one.

I would indeed like to repair it. I'll probably buy another board then repair the old one. Never a bad thing to have a spare. When we get enough members together we'll throw a huge party and take a joy ride on that ship they've had stashed out there for 50 years. I've heard that those spaceships fly like crap if you don't take them out of the garage for a spin at least twice a century!

Icidently since you are more enlightend than I about this stuff, I have always wondered the following:
Why does the new enterprise have a transporter room when they are able to beem people from the ground directly to the bridge or other places on the ship ?
