Any suggestions as where to start?

still need some help - I thought it was working ok but found it is not paying out.

It never makes any payouts, sometimes the hopper will spin (not on win combinations) but no coins are paid out.  The hopper has a diverter on top that send knocks the nickles off the shelve wheel.  Not sure what causes this diverter to open.  It accepts all 5 coins and spins as it should, it just never pays out.  The hopper does not spin on win combinations.

thanks

I have tinkered around and can get it to payout by rotating the RED cam like wheel clockwise until it stops, then i can place the 3 reels in a payout position and turn power on.  The jackpot bell rings and it pays out (every once in a while it may shot 1 coin).  The winner paid light comes on.  I can then play until the next pay is made but it will not pay off.  I pulled out the hopper and noticed the wipers have not reset to the counter clockwise position.  If I rotate and turn machine on it pays out.

I guess something is not working that would let the hopper wiper return to the clockwise position.

Thanks

That's the payout counter. First, see if it resets automatically (springs back) when you manually activate the plunger on the reset solenoid. There are only two solenoids, and the other one advances the counter one click. You can use it to advance the counter to perform your tests with the hopper out of the machine, since both actions are completely mechanical.

If the disc doesn't reset when you press the solenoid, check the spring that resets the disc and check to see if the spindle is gummed up. If it does, then either the solenoid is bad or it's not getting the reset voltage.

If the problem turns out to be electrical, I'll leave it to our EM experts to help you trace it. (That might be the case since it sounds like the coin deflector isn't being energized either.)

I believe the problem is the solenod is pulling in that releases the counter back to zero.  If I push the lever down with my finger the counter does return to zero.
