5 Cent Coin Mech

I'm looking for a 5 cent coin mech.

A buddy & I are restoring a Bally E2000 slot machine, all the glass
and payouts are 5 cents so he wants to keep it this way.

It uses a standard coin mech like any other pin or vid from
this ERA.  I did a quick look on EBay & Goggle, doesn't look
good :-(

Am I looking in the wrong places, or are they hard to find ?

I can't speak for the bally platform but IGT uses a CC16 for small coins (quarter, nickle, dime, penny) and a CC33 for large coins (50c dollar etc)
You simply change the sample coin, spacers and external coin head if you are changing denominations.

Jay, if it's using an old EM style coin mech as he says, he'll need to find a replacement. The weight "thingy" that catches, rotates, and changes the direction of the inserted coin is built for one sized coin only.



As an aside, I tested one of my quarter coin mechs several years ago. I had some foreign coins that were just 1/50" larger and smaller than a US quarter. The larger one got stuck (as it should) in that "thingy" and the smaller one was deflected, but was too light and was diverted back into the tray. Anything smaller dropped straight through the "thingy" and came back to the tray.

I was frankly impressed with how well the coin mech discriminated using no electricity whatsoever. I recall Op-Bell telling me that the magnet was designed to slow down coins falling past it just enough to make a difference in how it hit the deflector that caused the coin to either bounce back into the path leading to the hopper or fall back into the tray.

most Bally E-2000 had a CC-16 in them. there was a harness with a in line resistor that dropped the operating voltage down to a usuable level for the CC-16. the CC-16 will accept nickles, quarters, and fifty cent pieces.

the older "mechanical coin acceptor " that "stat" was referring too only accepted the one coin it was designed for. e.g if it was designed for a quarter, then it only accepted a quarter. the "thingy" was called a cradle. it served three purposes, to weight the coin, size it and check the diameter of it. if it passed all three of those tests then it rolled off it and down a ramp. as it went down the ramp the coin passed in front of the magnet. the purpose of the magnet, and the only purpose, (what we were told) was to capture foreign coins.
American money is not magnetic, so I don't see how it would affect the speed of as it rolled by. Where as Canadian money is magnetic and it will stick to a magnet. Back in the day, from the 50's up until the mid 80's no vending machine would accept Canadian money, primarily because of the exchange rate. at the time the Canadian quarter was worth only 18 cents. so as a owner you were losing money if your machines accepted Canadian money.
   Thank God they finally came out with electronic acceptors that you could flip a switch and make that decision your self. when the Canadian coin stuck to the magnet there was a coin reject sweeper arm that was supposed to remove the coin from the magnet, it never worked, the magnet was too strong and held on to the coin, sooooo!  we had to drive out to the location, open the machine , remove the coin and test the machine.not worth the time or gas to save seven cents.not to mention the lost revenue because the machine was out of order.
Lastly, there is a two part action how the cradle works, its the second part that will cause jams, If you remove the smaller cradle on the right you can put coins in faster and avoid the jams.

I was looking for a mechanical coin mech.  A vendor from this board
PM'd me and I'm hooked up !  I do have another E2000 that I'm going
to try to set up with a mechanical coin mech and some optics.
If that doesn't work, I'll look into the CC-16.

Where can I buy a mechanical (metal) nickel coin acceptor?  Trying to convert from electronic comparitor back to mech acceptor on a Bally E-2000.
