Nice info.  Going to give it a shot.  This should really be a sticky.

For those following in the future, Uniman's write up is spot on.  I had code 94 and 97.  94 was caused by a poorly repaired yellow wire to the BV.  97 I did several things to resolve it,  the cash can shutter was not fully opening and I taped the micro switch closed that the cash can is supposed to close when it is inserted.  I would suggest taping that closed before jumpering since it is easy to do.

Thanks again Uniman!

I just got the BV running in my wonder bar and learned a little lesson.  I had a 95 and 99.  The cause was no Vcc 2 +5 volts and the cause was a 2 wire connector not properly attached at the back plane.  I was surpised the Vcc2 is only used for BV and communications so it did not affect token play.

I also had the machine take 4 bills then quit working.  This caused me some frustration until I realized that I had 400 credits in the machine and it would not take any more credits.  I had the machine set to give 100 credits per 1 dollar bill.

Ahh, that's where the Vcc2 goes! Wasn't sure exactly where it was used.

You can up your credit limit to 2500, but can't have credits on the meter when you do so.

Good post, I got an Ultra Double Jackpot started up thats been in storage for a while. Reels were noisey at first and needed to clear ram. I had to reset dip switches to turn the bill validator off to clear 97 caused by the missing cash box.

Glad we could help.  yes
Error 97 is the bv itself sending the error. It senses the cashbox by the silver latch in the back and an optic in front on the bottom of the bv. It also sends 97 if a bill is stuck like Inieas said.

I think it could be. Was going to try a mod a few years back but never did due to lack of coin trays. I wanted to make the bv drop the bill in a chute and have it drop to the coin tray. The coin tray would need a hole cut in it. No extra trays so I never tried it.

The bv has a two prong connection in back the needs to be jumpered. The optic looks down at the cashbox where a small prism looking reflector is located. I was thinking maybe a piece of mirror or even reflective foil may do the trick. Never tried it so I'm not sure.

In addition to fooling it with a tiny mirror I am sure you could open the BV and jumper the optic sensor with a resistor of a proper value.  Trouble is you need to determine the proper value.
