Got this E-2000 machine in the other day and it has door, and coin optics. It is definitely some kind of tournament machine. The optics that confuse me are the ones on the right side of the machine.
There are two holes drilled through the side of the machine and a small board with optics lined up with the holes, the optics are marked TX and RX.

All I get on the machine is 500000 on the display with door open and -- 0000 with the door closed. The coin comparator light comes on and the insert coin light comes on but it won't play or take coins.

Checked every document we have and nothing mentions this kind of configuration or what the side optics are used for.

any info on this type of setup would be helpful.

Sound like it could be a Bally Military machine.. I had one that was setup with the optics like you have described.. I don't have mine any more or the Manual... Pictures are always helpful...

Thanks. and no mention of tournament mode, figures, none of the Bally manuals I read even mentioned a tournament mode.

I have an E2000 with that same setup. 

I think it is a optical transceiver that an
attendant can use to read the accounting
values.  Perhaps an external device.

Does this slot have a progressive payout/system ?

I had to unplug mine because it was pulling my
5V + to ground.

No progressive payout but it does have a credit meter and bet one and max buttons on the front of the door.
I am going to remove all of the optics and rewire the machine with switches in their place to see if it will allow me to get a game out of it.
Will unplug the TX/RX board and see if that helps.

If no game it will be stripped for parts.

you may have a Puerto Rico game - they required optics - changing the optics out is not the answer as the M1 M2 and M3 are set for the optics.  With the CREDIT and WIN meters - you have a later model with the CREDIT option so it is NOT a MILITARY.    Start all over and go to your original post -  check the ribbon cable going from the MPU to the IO -  5000000 indicates that the 2 boards are not connected or a problem with one of the boards.

Thanks Barry, I just called Larry to make sure he didn't start the conversion. The customer had made his own ribbon cables so we will be checking those tomorrow.
