Hi,
I'm new to owning pokies I purchased this IGT S the other day and it was working quite well then when I turned it on at the wall this morning it had a "Bad CMOS error" on the screen. After looking online I held down the test button for 3 sec and managed to reset the error but now instead of getting 20 10c credits for every $2 coin it only gives you 1 10c credit for each coin inserted, also the screen says insert 10c coin instead of insert $2 coin.

If I turn the jackpot reset key while holding the reserve key when the door is open then I can get the denomination: 10c on the screen but I can't work out how to change it to $2.
Any one know how to fix this???

Also I've noticed that sometimes while playing it says machine reserved (and button flashes) even though the button hasn't been pressed and it doesn't go away if your press reserve or play the game insert coins etc.

I've included some photos so you can identify the machine etc.

Interesting machine you've got there.  I've never seen one before.  Hopefully one of the "S" experts can chime in and help you out.  yes

Welcome to the site, and thank you for posting pictures of your machine and board -- it helps significantly in identifying your machine and hopefully getting your issue resolved.

Hi Legind.
The IGT S machine you have requires a "Denomination Eprom" to be inserted where the Game Eprom currently is, When the machine is turned on the machine lets you set the denomination (eg: 20 credits for $2.00) .
I know there is an existence of this denomination eprom but you would need to find some old slot techs in NZ or AU  with one.
There is also a "progressive Eprom" to set the progressive amounts on pokies like "Miracles" and "Casino Jackpots", these are both AU and NZ pokie machines.
I have been after these 2 eproms also as I Reset the Progressive through the same error as yours!, PM me if you find someone with these Eproms. wave

Wow Thanks for your help  looks like you have got a very similar machine, I'm also buying another similar this Wednesday.

As for getting a denomination chip, all I can think to try is to email all the current NZ repair agents in the hope that one has an old chip lying around. I'm a bit gutted as I only had this machine a couple of days when it happened.

I've seen a few people on here talk about the progressive settings what does that change? It might be likely I've mucked them up as well??

Yep, The "Casino Jackpots" I have had for years and an error occurred and I did the mistake of resetting the cmos ram, It shut down all the progressives on the top art to Zero, AHHHH bawling
I have been after the "progressive reset eprom" to set the progressives back.
You need the "Denomination Set Eprom" to set that up ,then you reinstall the game Eprom and your pricing will be back. I could do with the Denom chip also so I can set the credit to 20 for 1 coin also!.
Let us know how you go with the NZ Pokie repair people, hope they can help.
Cheers.

So far the only tech that replied to me all he asked was
"Why do you think you need the eproms you have asked for.
Do you have clear ram chips for these machines."

Do you know what he's talking about? sounds like I'm asking for the wrong thing maybe?

Was the tech a NZ/AU one?.
If he/she was from USA ,they might ask this question.

You can also create the "Bad cmos ram" error on your IGT stepper by removing the game eprom off the gameboard, reinstalling the gameboard and booting up the machine, shut it down , reinstall the gamechip , reinstall in the machine and power up. you then can reset by pressing the white button near the on/off switch and this will reset the machine back to factory settings. EG:- 10c = 1 credit.
You should provide some pics of the machine to the people you are emailing so they know what machine you are referring to.
There may be a reset ram chip for this machine, but the only chip to remove is the game chip (28 pin, M27C256 or M27C512) and install the reset chip to complete the ram clear or denomination chip to complete the setting of the price EG:- $2.00 coin = 20 credits.

Was defiantly an NZ tech.

I might try that method to recreate a cmos error tomorrow, when it happened the first time a kind of menu came on the screen and I think one of the settings may have been the denomination as well as the hopper refill amount etc. I actually changed the hopper fill amount from 2000 credit to 1000. I'll see if I can change the denomination as well.

Hay Legind.
I have heard of "clear ram chips" for the IGT steppers but have not seen any, the techs in the workshops repairing the boards used them.
the "Set Chip" ( or Denomination chip as I knew it as) is used to set the price from 10c= 1 credit to what ever you wanted , As in NZ they used it to set $2.00 = 20 credits.
Get back to your contact and purchase this chip. i will chip in also as I am after one too , PM me if required.
Let us know how you go.
Cheers.

I finally got around to trying this, have been a bit busy, it does work sometimes but I had trouble repeating the bad cmos ram error everytime I tried. this is what happened:
1. Remove game chip from motherboard and reinstall board with no chip in the socket.
2. Turn on machine screen turns on but say nothing credits, credits played and credits won are all 0 buttons don't do anything.
3. Turn off machine, remove motherboard and reinstall game chip and reinstall board into machine.
4. Turn on machine and see if "BAD CMOS RAM" is displayed on screen (3 out of 5 times it powered up with no error)
5. If "BAD CMOS RAM" is on screen hold down test button for 2-3 seconds until reserve and collect buttons light up.
6. screen displays "NON TOKENISED 10c" I now tried pressing reserve, collect, any other button or the jackpot reset key nothing happened.
7. pressed test button screen changed to "HOPPER COLLECT AMT (CRDT):    01000" again no buttons do anything except collect changed the credits played number from 1-5
8. pressed test again screen changed to "HOPPER REFILL AMT (CRDT):     01000" again no buttons do anything except collect changed credits played.
9. press test again and it powers up reset to defaults.

My question is how do I set these settings, I'm sure the first time the error happened I changed the hopper refill amount to 500 credits however I couldn't get it to work today?

You could try clearing the ram with the process you did before and do it again, try different button presses or combination of buttons.
I am pretty sure you need a "set chip" installed in replacement of the game eprom to set these options, then reinstall the game eprom and the options will be on the machine that you just set up.
How did you go with the NZ tech, you able to get a chip from them or a service call where they can set it on your pokie machine at your place?
cheers.

Hay Legind.
I just thought of something else you can try!.
This is from the free download of the S Slot manual which I have printed out and binded for reference.  http://www.slotsdirect.com/igtmanual_dnld.html
You can try and solder some jumpers across where a dip switch would be to see if you can change any options after a reset ram.
Let us know if it works for you, I have also taken a pic of the dip switch options for you from the manual I downloaded.
Cheers.

Just a bit of an update on how I'm getting on, I've been emailing Gaming Machine Distributors (GMD) as they are the service agents for the south island, there Dunedin repairer doesn't have the chips required, and they can't allow me to purchase one, even for such an old machine. I have got them to agree to fix it and I'm going to send the processor board to christchurch so they can do it. It's going to cost me $35 plus shipping so lets hope it works.

Hey Legind,
Any update as to getting GMD to set up the denomination on your board?
