Is that Mikohn board wired to the payer tracking display board?
I think we're looking at two different systems.

Mikohn boards are for progressive meters - which uses Mikohn displays.

I'm not entirely sure if that display board in the player tracking is a progressive display board - I think it's more of a player tracking board, which would need an entirely different board similar to the Bally Mastercom boards.
The board for the player tracking system is usually also attached to the back of the player tracking panel.

The ChamII is the Mikohn board on the wall in your topbox next to the fluorescent light.
That controls the progressive meter display behind the topbox glass.

The small display pic you posted is the player tracking display and usually has it's own control board in the top box with it. Generally, once it's out of the casino, it'll just display generic info not tied to the system of the casino it came out of. Yours looks like they kept the control as they sometimes do when they strip SAS control equipment out before they sell them. On the other hand, someone on this site, FORDSBS maybe?, had written programming and was using that panel for game control. Adding credits and what not. I didn't pay enough attention I guess

For home use you can generally forget about the player tracking system. Some of our more adventurous members have powered the display and programmed it to say something cute, but it's not a necessary part of your machine and can't be used for all intents and purposes by home slot owners.

Getting your progressive running, on the other hand, might be worth looking into. While it's not necessary to have a working progressive in the machine, it enhances the game and makes playing the slot more interesting.

The sticker on the controller board reads "Gateway" which suggests that the machine was hooked up to a CON1 and will not work as a stand alone (it would have been connected as part of a bank of machines to the CON1 which drove all of them and probably a large overhead sign as well.) On the other hand, you have a value on the meter. Scratch Head 2 I am by no means an expert on these.

Turn off the machine and remove the top award glass. (Be careful and remember that the meter is in a balsa wood frame on the back of the award glass and that there will be a ribbon cable running from the display meter to a PCB.) There should be a power supply and a board in there powering the display. The board might be sitting on top of the PS. Take a picture of the board that is clear enough for us to read the stickers on the chips. I'm guessing that it's a CHAM44, but again, I'm no expert.

Once we know what you've got, our members will be more able to help you get it running. Jay is our resident expert on Mikohn equipment.

The device pictured in post 2 appears to be a gateway, not a CHAMII.

A gateway very possible.

It is getting an actual progressive value from the machine and not a coin in or jackpot signal, because it is connected to the S+ with a mini photon or Spectrum harness.
Notice the 6 pin molex connector coming from the right.
Same color codes on the wires as the S+ to mini-photon or spectrum harness.
The signals are data, strobe, and a reset.
8 bit serial, no start, stop or parity bits (hence reason for the strobe signal and reset) in fact all three signals are inverted
Logic 1 is 0V and logic 0 is +VB

Hay guys, for the progressive led, i can only get it to show a dollar value, when i push the bet max or spin button i thought it should count up on the led, but it does not.  I did make a cable to go to pins 3,11,13 to 2,3, and 4 on the bottom board. And also am running a copy of the psp v2.0, maybe i got something in the programming honked up, i even tried to put text in the mess.do section and nothing happens, i believe its a cham II, im not to sure but i added a picture and the p.n. is 341-075-00 stand alone, and it has a ribbon cable going to the lad display in the top glas p.n. 341-010-30. I would love for it to count in increaments when the buttons are pushed also have a message  scroll across it when its in idle after a couple minutes..is it possible???? CaptainHappy Worried

Do you have the Cham II manual and PSP 2.0 manual?

The messeage has to be placed in the JPOT.DO and you have to change soem settings on the Cham II MFILE=0

FYI The J12 is backwords on the MPU (4 3 2 1)

J7 pins 3,11 and 13 are used. the odd pins are closest to the Xlinx Chip pin 1 being to the left in your picture towards the where the RS232 port is located.
Also you have to either set the dip switches on your machine for linked progressive or use the right Set Chip usually a set 90)
the small mikohn board in your top box can be removed as well.

Also you have to set the f4 and F8 settings in PSP (Jackpot Programming to match your machine)
F4 is M-00, M-05 or M-08
F8 is MS08

Also when sending the MESG files or other settings either reboot the cham II (power it off and on) then send the data (F1) quickly after the boot is finished, or be prepared to press F1 a few times.

I would not modify the JPOT.DO file until you get a new progressive value programmed and the the machine and Cham II communicating
The value will incement as soon as you place any bet, (coin in, bet one credit, max bet)

Doing the JPOT.DO can be tricky
Start a new paragraph at the end of the short line in JPOT.DO and place the font, color and such tokens then your message
Also you need to place a speed token and value before the jackpot token (it is actually a timer when placed there) this is so you can determine how long progressive value shows before it goes to the next paragraph. the Cham II cant do a idle message.

Give me some time and I will see if I can recreate a sample JPOT.DO I have never had luck retrieving the one in my Cham II.

Just FYI, that is a CHAMII+, you can tel because it says Standalone on the label (doesn't need a jackpot controller).

Mess.do doesn't work on that controller. If you want custom text, make it part of one long jpot.do file.

Agree with Post

So now that the pictures have established that the top box contains a CHAMII+ and not the CHAM44 I was expecting, does he even need the gateway board?

Maybe for the tournament mode, Stat, so it can display the player's score?
