I had this problem last year on my vision coin in jam I replaced my IGT S2000 504  Backplane motherboard and the coin in jam went away before that
I changed the vacume floor display the I/O board and swaped out mother boards nothing happened when I switched the Backplane it went away at least on my machine
Good Luck

ok i just changed both I/O boards, the back mother board and power supply. i put the main board in another machine and it boots up and works fine then when i put it back in the other machine it still comes up with the coin in jam. 2 other things theres no hopper in it and there was no vfd driver board in it when i got it. i put the driver board in and it and i was wondering if that had any thing to do with it cause i know theres diffrent versions on the eprom that goes in it? i cant think of any thing else to swap out iam open to any suggestions

I see you said it has no hopper. Does the machine have a coin comparitor installed and if not, does it have the jumper plug installed on the door harness where the comparitor harness normally plugs in?

When I had a persistant coin jam problem awhile back it ended up being a bad version chip, highly unusual deal. All the boards you've swapped out work fine in other machines? Are you getting any other messages on the VFD display along with that coin in jam error?

I don't know what the 8 would be. S2000 machines don't use numeric error codes like s+ machines do and you changed the MPU so there shouldn't be any credits on the machine much less in the winner paid window. When you swapped comparitors did you change the coin optics too?

Have you tried swapping out the players display
if no credits on the machine the Coin/Credits played should be the only part of the players display.
one with the 7 segment LED's it is not the blue VFD display.
Next would be check the door harness out (one that connects between the Door I/O and the buttons, coin comparator, coin optics, and the players display

have you opened/closed the main door a few times?  stacked errors are sometimes a pain.

also do you have a sample coin in your comparator?  clear dust/debris from coin in optics?

post up your game/base versions and vfd driver board version and we'll see if they're compatible for you.  yes

from the PSR for SG598:

The VFD program controls the vacuum fluorescent display. The label indicates VACUUM FLOR DISPLAY and the VFD number. VFD00007 is required for controller boards with part number 75117700. VFDF3001 is required for controller boards with part number 75120400. Some game themes require an additional display. The number (VFD1xxxx) is dependent on the game theme

see if you have a VFD00007 chip in another machine and give that a try!  applause

If you have the parts, try swapping the complete coin mech w/ bracket assembly and the harness from the assembly to the door harness

try swapping the door I/O cards before you pull your mpu.  what part number are your door I/O's?
