Question about a part in my S2000

I just picked up a S2000 slot machine and there is an additional board attached to the MPU.  Not sure what it is for.  My other one does not have it.  I attached a photo.

That's a' Multimedia Lite' board.

it's the multimedia lite board for enhanced game sounds, but yours is missing the simm that has the sound files stored on it.

Well that stinks that i have the board but not the SIMM card.     Can all S2000 games use the enhanced sounds?  I have a Triple Diamond that I would like to add enhanced sounds to.

Yes they can, some games have custom sounds and others just use the "generic enhanced sounds"
They might have done you a favor by keeping the simm.... on my machine and many other peoples the multimedia lite board causes humming(cointray speaker) and static(stereo speakers) that nobody seems to be able to find a real solution for, except to pad the speakers down with a resistors or potentiometers.

I tried the 47 k ohm resistors on my speakers and lost sound completely, so I went back to the original state. Could I possibly have a faulty multimedia lite board that is making the noise through the speakers, or is that a problem with every multimedia lite board?

I think its a ground issue. I made sure it wasn't noise being induced into the signal by other wires bundled in the wiring harness, I cut the signal wires from the board to the amp located in the top box and replaced them with two shielded cables(like rca interconnect cables) and that had zero effect on the noise

The noise is introduced by cross talk from traces near the audio traces and/or components on the 501 and 502 versions of the MPU.
I have a 504B and 1270 board and neither one has buzz sound coming from speaker.

Remove the MMLB board from the MPU and post back the last 3 numbers and rev letter on the part number label.
it will be something like 501 A, 502 A
it will be a number like P/N 7551050n rev x (n =1,2 x = A,B)
you can put it back on after looking at the numbers


The best solution if the number is 501 or 502 is to buy a 504B from one of the vendors on the main page or eBay.
A 504B will not have any sound issues.

with a short jumper harness on the sound amp card in the topbox that eliminates
the hum and static for the 501/502 MPU boards?

47k is way to much. Nothing more than 47 ohm. I use 10 ohm and it works fine.

If you have hum and static with a 504B make sure the 2 jumper wires on the black 10 pin connector to the amp are in place.

Also note the S2000 was not designed for clean sound like you would get from a very nice home stereo or theater setup.
I even have some noise but I suspect it is actually designed to be there.
By no means is it loud or the annoying buzz that shows up if you clip the attenuation jumpers on the input harness for the amp.

yes the jumper is on the signal connector that plugs into the amp, the noise is way worse without those jumpers lol.....
anybody have an electrical print for that amp?

I had horrible noise when I use 502A even after applying all of IGT's fixes to update the board.
but my 504B and 1270 I have no issues.
if your machine is an early s2000 or vision ready could contribute to the noise issue.
Let me see if I can make a short recording of mine and post it.

I'll have to take a close look at them, but I'm still leaning towards it being some sort of ground issue. The amp doesn't make the noise when the black input signal connector isn't plugged in. I know my expectations are high, but want it to be that quiet all the time.

HMMMM... my amp is a 76928000 rev a... it looks like it pretty much the same except for having less channels on the amp (from what I can tell)

The amp only has 2 channels if you are thinking of the inputs into the amp not all of those are inputs.
the jumper wires in the black connector create attenuation, which helps cut down on noise from Electrical Field Interference (EFI) and Radio Frequency Interference (RFI)

I am going to add the top box speaker diagram to this post.

There are 4 outputs:
The top box speakers
The tray sub woofer
A+B full bacnwidth output that is not used normally. Some members here have connected the tray speaker to it with a adapter harness. It created more noise than I liked.

IGT picked a quad audio amp IC that was most likely designed for a car stereo
They just feed the 2 channels into 4 amps
2 used for the left right top speakers, one for the tray sub, and one for the full band width A+B output using op amps to keep the Left, right, Bass (A+B), and full (A+B) separated, and some signal processing.

That little IC can wake up the wife/SO if you set the volume to high.

I tried to record the machine but my cell phone picked up the mechanical noise (fan motor, reels) it made the machine sound worse than it actually is.

Some on here hate the fan noise as well but the longer you are around the machine, the less you will notice the fan running.
