15 MILLION PAGE HITS

Shhhh. Don't tell anyone, but the stat center already has us at over 17 million hits, and it's probably more accurate than the external counter.

I mean...you don't have to if you don't want to but uh...
this anomaly with the actual verifiable count -
will forever be a stigma in my brain... rotflmao

It's like having a car that had the odometer busted one time
and the fenders are falling off from rust
but the odometer only says 9,000 miles on it.

Yes, and Joey already gave it a boost a while back, but it will always continue to lag behind because not all page hits end up completing the request to update it, and it might also lose some hits when the requests are too close together.

Here's how you deal with it:
