Machine is working pretty good, accept does not pay correct amount. always a lot more. Meter shows correctly, but pay out is almost double, but is not consistent.

Check the hopper wiper adjustment.

u don't happen to have a picture do you. I'm looking at the hopper and I think the star looking rubber thing is the wiper. Where would the adjustment be? Sorry, obviously new.

The only time I had a pay out problem on a Bally E-Series it was caused by the brake lever on the back of the hopper motor was sticky and not stopping the motor. A could drops of oil and my problem was corrected. You could also check the switch that counts each coin as it passes under the roller to see if it's adjusted correctly too. Those are usually the most common problems.

While I was trying to figure it out, I started wiping and putting a little oil on everything that was moving. The screws that look like they hold the assembly together, that have springs. Are those supposed to be snugged tight, because they aren't? The brake on the motor, is that the little lever at the bottom that if I depress, it allows me to turn the wheel?

Yea that's the one. There's another pivot straight across from that one too. The screws with the springs need to be tight. The one on the right is an eccentric adjustment. If that ones adjusted wrong the hopper will not turn. Hold the hopper brake while turning the hopper star to check for drag.

But since the counter is all ways right and the coins are almost always double.
Then it will be the wiper is allowing two coins at a time or the switch is not counting every coin.

I think we've got it. It's been paying out correctly now for 10 or 15 hits and doing the test is also paying out correctly. Whew, it's an oldie, and my first slot so I know I'll have some problems. Got to get a service manual. I got an operators' manual. Well wish me luck that it keeps plugging along. You guys have saved me a lot of frustration so I REALLY appreciate your help. This forum has turned into a lifesaver. Thanks again

I think adjusting the hopper wiper adjustment did the trick. The only other thing I did was a little lube here and there. I sure appreciate the help. Any suggestions as to where to get a service manual?

Glad to hear you got it fixed. Good call to proten on this one +1 (Karma, or whatever)  I always check the wiper adj when I pick up a machine. I guess that why I never thought it to be the problem, plus I didn't think the reel shelve was wide enough for two coins. Live and learn.

Proten, I was telling Amechanic that I just went down and powered it up and the #1 reel kept spinning and I got a tilt and 71 error, a reel index my operator's manual said. I tried and tried to reset, powered down, etc. and after a while, it did reset, but not exactly sure what I did. It's happened before, and I was able to reset it. It's working now and the good news is, payout is working perfectly. Geez, this is nerve racking isn't it? What is reel indexing, something I can do?

Here is what the book says.
I would start by checking to see if the reels turn freely and smoothly.
Then move the card reader #1 to the #3 position and see if you get a code 73.
If you do get a code #73, then you have a bad reel reader, if not then some thing is
hanging in the reel assembly.

Thanks for the help, I'll give it a try. At the moment, everything is working good. It seems the couple times it's happened, was after the machine had been powered off for awhile and powered back on, put a coin in, pull handle, then it happened. I'll let you know when it occurs again.

It sounds like the machine could use a good lube job.
The old lube may be getting stiff when it sets.
