Try sending batteries via FEDEX international?   well -  tried to ship Nicad to Australia - Post office accepted it - gave it to FEDEX - who inturn - gave it back to Post Office -  DANGEROUS GOODS - violation!!!!  After 12 phone calls - Fedex tells me in order to ship BATTERIES (there site says nothing about NICAD only Lithium)  -  I need to have the manufacturers spec sheet for the batteries AND get this I HAVE TO ATTEND A 3 DAY SEMINAR about shipping Hazardous Materials.   Seems batteries are also getting harder to find too.  anyone want to chime in on this?   OH you can still ship GROUND -  can't seem to find a road going to Australia.

You may need to change the description, a little.

I've sent a AR-15 barrel back to the factory & U.P.S. would accept it.
I changed the description to 3/4 Pipe & no problems. The factory got it, sent back one with a Bird cage, & bayonet lug & everyone was happy.
Batteries may be a federal offense.

Acorcding to this FedEx document, nicads are not a problem.
http://images.fedex.com/us/packaging/guides/BatteryShipments_fxcom.pdf

Quote
Dry batteries are sealed, nonvented batteries used in flashlights or small appliances. They contain zinc salts and other solids or may be packed in combination with other metals. These batteries include non-rechargeable alkaline batteries and rechargeable batteries made with nickel metal hydride and nickel cadmium.

It then goes on to talk about those that require special labling and later gives the code to use for spefic types. After thats, it then talks about lithium batteries as a seperate catagory.

Quote
Some dry batteries are regulated battery shipments (Class 4 — Dangerous When Wet or Class 8 — Corrosive) and must be correctly identified, classified, packaged, marked and labeled.

UN Numbers and Proper Shipping Names for Dry Batteries
• UN 3028, Batteries, dry, containing potassium hydroxide, solid
• UN 3292, Batteries, containing sodium

Sounds to me like someone at FedEx screwed up or does not know what they are talking about.

Some minimum wage guy at FedEx saw the word Batteries and said ""Hmmm, I heard somewhere there was a problem with those..." happens all the time.

Tell them you're shipping computer components that provide offline storage of potentially useful electrons.  Crazy frying pan

only problem - FEDEX is like the government - you get passed to different idiots - and each idiot goes along with the idiot prior - and by the end - you end up feeling like an idiot too!!!   Anyway - hope the POST OFFICE is reading our site - I shipped them 1st class - NICAD BAT as the desc on the customs doc - so far???  haven't heard from my Australian customer.  He will be elated for the batteries and more so if I can get his $50 back from FEDEX/POST OFFICE - fat chance of that happening.

I had a similar issue, UPS wouldn't let me ship a rifle directly to Remington for repair. UPS said I needed to be a licensed FFL to ship a rifle for repair AND that it needed to be shipped back to a local gun shop, I called the ATF and found out it was horse s**t.

Long story short, 3 hours of bit***ng at UPS and putting them on the phone with the ATF they finally shipped my rifle.
