Normally no, just pull out on it, if you do not have a lock installed in the front hole of the door (if you do unlock it)

You can look at it with the door open and see if something is sticking (including the belly glass door) either because of spilled liquids or something being to tight.
I had  a S+ that I had to hold the latch open to close the belly door, it was that tight.

You can try to loosen the three screws a little bit to give the sliding bar more room to slide.

With the door open you can grab the knob with your left hand and grab the sliding bar with your right hand and pull both at the same time in the same direction.

Sometimes I clamp a vice grip on the sliding bar and use it to help get a grip with my right hand.

NO just pull out on the knurled knob as shown and it will release the belly door (be careful the door will drop down and SMASH your glass )

Staz, with the door open, pull that release knob and see if the slide moves at all. If it doesn't, it might be that the nut on the end of the release knob has come loose so it's not pulling the slide far enough for the door to open.

I know that this has been asked, but it can't hurt to ask again very specifically... Is there a lock installed, and are you sure that it is unlocked??? Can you post a picture of the side of the door like Plunger Boy did? The lock in question is in the picture near the curved part of the door above the knurled knob that you normally pull out on to open the belly door. See my modified picture that Plunger Boy posted for you.

Sorry if you have already checked this, but it would be good to confirm for everyone. If it is locked that knob will not budge.

I agree that you want to leave it alone if there is no need to get in, and if you do get it open, be sure that the belly door is supported by your hand so that it does not suddenly drop down and possibly bust your glass.

Staz,

In this picture you can see that I don't have locks installed, and you can see how the knob pulls out. Some are tight, but this one is really easy. My hand position is for demonstration only so that I can pull the knob, brace the door from falling while taking a picture at the same time! Take a Photo

I hope that a picture is worth a thousand words here? Scratch Head

On one of my S2000 machines the belly door is incredibly stubborn -- I think that's what Staz ran into here.

Also, a very good point by PLUNGER BOY -- be careful when you're opening the door, or you could smash your glass.  In the case of "special" glass that's hard to find, that would be especially painful to do.

Haha! You're a good guy staz!
I'm glad you understand I was just joking around...
Your post about you having a hard time lining up 3 screw holes made my day!
Especially when after 20 years as a former high-steel ironworker -
I've stuck literally thousands of bolts in bridges and skyscrapers!

Hey! Can you guys see the new world trade high-rise from the Tappan Zee Bridge yet?
I remember we used to see the Twin Towers from that bridge years ago!

Have a great New Year man and win some big bucks down there!  yes
