So when you have it on 4, it ONLY displays the 4133 and does not alternate with another number? The reason is that the SP chip number determines what the self test button displays. Using a PSR for the game chip (once we know what chip number it is) will allow us to interpret what you are getting. For example, a 6 in the coins played normally is for telling if the mechanical bell is on or off. But you gave some strange numbers. That makes me also think that your SP chip may be bad. But until you get the battery replaced, we won't know, as we need to get past the 12 error first (assuming the battery is actually bad the error is not the result of a bad SP chip). Do you have a meter? Can you measure the battery voltage?

Just for the heck of it, I looked at mine in my test machine.  Scratch Head 3
When I press the little white Test button 10 times - the number "4" is displayed in the "Coins Played" window
and the SP chip number is displayed in the "Credits" window. (0676)
It's the SS reel chip (4265@92%) that alternates in the "Winner Paid" window with the GameType number.
In my case, a "2" since I have a Double Jackpot Haywire chip installed.

I recall that some of the real early SP chips did not come up in the display.  I am talking about SP chips with  numbers in the low hundreds.  Like SP 152,  for an example.  since you have an older type machine, no B.V. , full glass across the back, it could be that simple that you just have an old SP chip.

Wild Cherry was one of IGT's core games that came out in the "S" series, those did not require a SP chip at all.

Ok, I just tried mine on my Gold Mopuntain and it alternates between
(winner paid) 00 (credits) 1048 (my sp is a 1048 type 0)
and
(winner paid) 00 (credits) 3819 (my reel chip is a 3819)

However, on my Haywire Deluxe it alternates between
(winner paid) 21 (credits) 0873 (my sp is a 873 and type 21)
and
(winner paid) 6418 (credits) 0873 (my reel chip is a 6418)

So they do display it differenty, but on both machines it does show the SP

Yes, I think all Jim was saying that the SP chips below 200 didn't display the SP number on the display.
However, SP chips like that are pretty rare and I've seen them used for the Military games.

The Military machines, although extremely cheap on the award payouts, have a really cool center display that displays errors and information much differently than our S+ displays - these were almost like the more modern VFD displays actually!  yummy

So this unit is a very rare slot machine..

i seen you said that the pay out is very low on this.

Can you change the chips on this machine??

Or if the chip is bad how hard will it be to find another chip like this one??

Can you make it a higher pay out by putting in a diffrent chip??

I'm sorry but I think you've misunderstood me.
I was relating to JIM's post in which he thinks that it's possible you have older SP chips installed and
I was talking about military chips - they put the lowest % chips on their machines.
Those particular ones with the numbers in the 100's may not display the SP number in the windows.
And yes, you may change chips on these boards but it would much better if you can pull out the board
and show us a pic of the board and the labels on the SS and SP chips -
that way, we can tell you what options you have.

Remember, the more you can show us - the more we can help you!

I do not think your chip is bad - I know your battery is though.
That's why you received the error code [12].

Can anyone tell me why there's a jug on the bottom front right-hand corner of the machine?
Did slants have those with a hose to grab spilled drinks in the coin tray?  Scratch Head 3

Ok..

There is pics of the board all ready posted of the chips...

There is no writing on the chips them self, It has all been faded off the paper ontop of the chip.

One chip has just a clear window that i coverd with black tape like someone told me to do in this post.

I dont know why they have a jug there and a hose..

Mine has that on it also...

At this point I suggest to just wait until you get the battery replaced and then go from there. One way or another we will get this machine up and running.  yes

Your machine isn't that rare -- it's an early S+ without an embedded bill validator.  Yes, you can put other higher percentage payout chips in the machine to get a better overall payout.  You can also get the correct award glass inserts to get your machine back to how it would have looked coming from the factory.  If you're interested, you can post in the classifieds section with your request and one of the vendors or members should be able to supply the chips and inserts that you need.

Yes, there's a little drain in the bottom of the coin tray that a hose would be routed to that little white/clear plastic bottle to collect spilled liquid.  Bartop drop-in machines have the same thing.

 Agree with Post

Your chips and whatnot are probably fine -- I would just wait until you get your new battery installed before deciding to make any changes.  yes

1. With the door open, press the self test button until it changes to 61_1 (and it should make a ding sound).
2. Close AND latch the door and then turn the jackpot reset key.

If all is well, the game will be ready to play.

And for future reference, you can go here to see how to clear any other errors.

Please describe exactly what you are doing step by step. Ypu may be stuck in the 61 loop, but just want to verify the steps you are taking.

Also, you can try pulling the MPU out (with power off of course) and then pull the CMOS chip out for a few seconds. Put it back together and try again.

Ok...

With the power off.

I pulled the MPU and then installed the battery.

Then i put the MPU back in and turned the power back on.

I got the 61 error and then i pressed the test button for 2-3 sec.

The LCD display will go blank and the 61 will go away then it will come back..

Thats what i have done so far..

Definitely all the signs of the classic [61] Error Code Loop.

Definitely all the signs of the classic [61] Error Code Loop.

I thought the 61 loop is when the 61 comes back after turning the jackpot key. In other words I thought you would get a 61_1, but then the 61 would come back. In this case the 61 never changes to 61_1. Is that also the way the 61 loop works?

In any case if the CMOS pull does not work then the next step is a clear. I would probably also replace that SP chip because it is still suspect and we don't know what number it is because it does not display it.

drfreeze1739,
One more thing to try (not sure if this wil work with a 61 showing), but try pressing the self test to see if you can get into the menus, and if you can, keep pressing the button until it resets and then try to clear it agaiin.

Ok..

I turnd off the power.

Pulled the MPU.

Then removed the CMOS chip..

Put the chip back in.

Turend power on and got 61 error.

Pressed the test button and got 61-1 error and got a ding sound...

Turned the reset jack pot key..

Error went away and all the lights on the candel and the LCD went blank...

then the error came back to 61 on the LDC..

I've seen that code get stuck both ways Poppo...
I usually have a Clear chip on hand to rub it out and get the train back on track.

It is so very frustrating for newbies because they've never used Clear chips before
and don't understand that this is just about the only time they will EVER need one.

Pulling the CMOS is just like cutting off the power - to the CMOS only.
It's when the code gets stuck in the eeprom chip on the motherboard that drives people wild.
That's when they really need the clear chip.

You've played with the CMOS and eeproms and have learned a lot more than I
in how those puppies retain stuff and how to erase them.
I like using the Clear to wipe out both at the same time to start fresh.

Ok, that is more like the normal 61 loop.

Just for grins try pulling the CMOS again. And then try what I posted above (going though the menus if it will let you).
