I picked up a 1936 five cent Groetchen Columbia yesterday. It seems complete but does not work. Without inserting a nickel the handle moves up and down and does not return. No return spring and no action at all. Does anyone have a manual and where can I get the case repainted to original in NY/NJ area ?

I did get it working finally. I agree with you Steve, worst machine ever. Jams all of the time.

Frank,  I have one in the shop as well,  got 98% of it working,  the only problem remaining is the feature that pushes the nickle out of the carousel to send to the jackpot window. it appears that the coin is past the slot where it is ejected , thereby jamming the incoming coin into a slot that has a nickle already in it.

any thoughts as to correct this?  is the spacing of the slot that holds the coin (on the carousel) a concern?

I disagree a little here, I think the Mills Vest Pocket is the worst! It's a little jamming bastard, that is why they made them so small, so you could throw the damn thing against the wall. Interesting thing about the Columbia's, is that the way the coin carousal is made and how it works, as it pays you the last coins you played in it first, so if you were slugging the machine, you would win your all your slugs right back, now how cool is that!

Sorry to bump this thread but is there anyone that would have a copy of said manual? An uncle of mine just recently acquired one of these machines and while it looks in great shape, it doesn't function.

i have a problem with the carosel when a coin is inserted the top turns but the carosel does not turn to fit the next coin.

Hello, I'm picking a Columbia bell, it doesn't work and has been sitting a long time. Is there something that I should lookout for that is usually broken that isn't easily found or fixed? I also am looking for a repair manual, I've fixed mills, Jennings, Bally, pace, and caille machines but am told that the Columbia is different.

Hello everyone.  I am brand new here and was attracted as I am working on bringing my grandfathers Columbia 5c back to life.   I am remarkably close, but the dual jackpot is not working and the wheels need new rails on them as the old ones have water damage so they show fruit peeling off to reveal cigarettes.

If anyone has a manual they would be able to send, I would appreciate it greatly.
