I have a reel 2 error code that I can't clear, I tried to open the door and turn the jackpot reset key once and shut the door back, but it stayed the same.

Does the reel spin freely when no power is applied? Does it do it's maiden spin? Have you tried swapping reels temporarily to see if the error changes? If so it's the reel. Check the reel plug to make sure a pin is not getting pushed out. Make sure nothing is blocking the reel optics.

Assuming you've never had this machine running before -
you haven't told us whether or not this problem just popped up
or it's a machine you've purchased recently but have not yet powered up.

Also, there is no "2" error code on an S+ machine.
Because you had [42] in the title of the thread you've started asking for help - Poppo guessed correctly
that you have a reel error [42].
That means the middle reel of a 3 reeler machine.
Normally there are 3 reel error codes [41, 42, 43] that correspond to each of the reel assemblies.

Do the reels stop spinning when you turn the reset key?
Does the "Coins Played" window go out momentarily after you close the door?

Check the 7th pin on "A" row of the MPU  J1 64-pin header that plugs into the floor motherboard.
Could be bent?

That's the simple fix...the harder fix is to check anything optic-related.
1). The reel optics - esp. the middle one.
2). The coin-in optics ( human hair or fluff blocking one of the holes in the encoder),
3). The hopper optics ( piece of coin wrapper paper stuck in the optics),
4). The door optics  ( for alignment, must see each other eye-to-eye ),
5). All related wiring....especially the reel harness to the 2nd reel.
If that all fails, swap the MPU because after that point, it's bench level circuit board repairs.

I had a bad door optic, so now the 42 error has cleared. Now the bottom light on the candle flashes rapidly and it will not accept coins. I know the comparitor is good because I used a known working one. Also I can press the small switch at coin optic board and it will credit up and I can paly a game.

Fast flash is indicating a door open. Could be your cash can door or main door optics is still not right.

Put the credit on the machine with the test button and close the door. If the credit does not go away, the optics are still not working or not aligned properly.

I put a credit on from the small button and closed the door and it went away, so I believe the optics are fine now. This particular machine does not have a bill acceptor nor a cash can either, just set up for coins.

Have you tried tying back the rake to verify the coin optics are working? Or run the coin optics input test.
