People often tell me they remember that "Universal sound" from old t.v. shows with casino scenes.
Most folks don't realize Universal had several different variations of sound chips.
So, for the archives, here is what information I have;

First and most famous sound chip is the 0822. This was the one heard on t.v. and was installed in most 1985,86,87 machines.
There are two chip sockets on the 8116 board, 4M, and 3M. They are 24 pin, made for 2732's.
The 0822 is installed on 4M and 3M is empty.
Then Universal expanded the sound to two chips, the first chip was the Main Master, and the second was the Data.
Main Master installed in socket 4M and Data in 3M.
Here is a list of sound chips for the 8116 board;      (Bolded numbers are chips I have)

Main Master                     Data                             Specific Game          recognizable feature
8953-0001                    8953-0002                               ?

8953-0003                8953-0004
                               8953-0005                              several                  distinctive whoosh sound at begin of reel spin
                                  8953-0006
                                  8953-0007
                                  8953-0008

8953-0022                8953-0024 replaced by 0028
                                  8953-0025 replaced by 0029
                                  8953-0026 replaced by 0030
                               8953-0027 replaced by 0031
                                  8953-0035                              7-RUSH
                                  8953-0040
                                  8953-0041
                                  8953-0042
                                  8953-0045
                                  8953-0046
                                  8953-0047

                                  8953-0049

8953-0023                    8953-0024                     only for MUSTANG

The 8800 board has one 256k sound chip. This chip contains both the Main Master and Data.
The main is the 8953-0022 (sometimes modified) and the chip number is the Data number;

8953-0050                                                            nice spin sound, reminds me of Bally's sound

Ultra slots have one 256k sound chip on the 94014 board;

94010-SND-0003                            far superior to all other Universal sounds

Sound file must be compatable to machine chip. No compatability list available that I know of??

Any other info out there, let me know!
