Coins Played Flashes 0 other displays blank

I've got an S+ I just acquired giving me problems.  When I went to power it up after moving it last week I was getting the displays cycling different numbers.  Nothing looked like an obvious error like I'm used to seeing.

I tried the usual reset and selftest switch dance.  I tried swapping another game board in just to make sure there was nothing in the machine itself that was causing the issue.  I got a 65_2 EEPROM mismatch.  I held the selftest switch down for 3 seconds and it cleared that but wouldn't ever come up and play. 

I went ahead and put the original board back in and it homes the reels and then comes up with a flashing 0 in coins paid but nothing else on the other displays.  I can hit the reset key and step through and see the other displays are functioning okay, but can't get the came to do anything other than flash 0 in coins paid and not allow me to coin in.

Thoughts?

With the door open, press the Service Coin button a couple of times
and see of the coin-in optics will throw some credits onto the display and play?
This will tell you if your coin-in optics are working.
That's basically what the little button is for - to test stuff with the door open!

Check the white molex power connector going to the motherboard (the board the MPU plugs into). It often will become burnt and cause intermittent operation. Moving the machine may have made it become twitchy.

I tried that last night.  No luck there.  Will check the molex connector next.

You didn't tell us that...you said you "tried the usual reset and selftest switch dance. "

The "Service Coin" button is located on the Coin-In optics board under the coin comparator.

The reels spin up fine and when I go into the Self Test or Audit mode, it's clear the displays are all functioning, I can even hear the bill acceptor do its power on test, so I don't think it is an intermittant power issue.

What does a flashing 0 in the coins paid display with the other displays blank signify?  I didn't see that listed in the error codes.

The BV is powered separately and is independent of the game power. It will cycle even without a MPU.

Something is wrong.   Is your denomintation light lit? Is insert coin flashing? Is the candle flashing? If so, how?

Hey Poppo,

I don't get it.  Today I went out there and it works.  The Insert Coin light was burned out, which I was being careful not to rely on the other night as I suspected it might be.  But it wouldn't coin up using the credit switch the other night either. or take coins.

Today, everything is working on it.  I'm definitely going to have to do a fair bit of testing on this guy to make sure it is reliable.

The other night the lower candle was doing a fast flash.  Insert Coin was obviously burned out.

Actually, I would re-seat all connectors.

I did, it is a little burned but didn't seem too bad.  I'm probably going to just replace that cable anyway.

What is odd is that even the other night it was clear all the displays and reels were working and there were no apparent resets occuring.  If there is a bad connection with that cable I would not have expected everything to be working to the extent it was.

If it's not too bad it can cause the machine to randomly act up. Sometimes just re-seating it a few times will help. But best to replace it and clean up the pins on the motherboard.

I don't recall offhand but I think it's one of the green ground receptor pins that goes bad
and causes the mini-arcing, overheated brownish-color on the Molex housing.
I could be wrong on this as I'm nowhere near an S+ at the moment.
