Did the validator work and quit or has it never worked? It could be that you need a BV chip to enable it if it hasn't worked since you got it or the battery has been changed recently

I did put a BV chip in and set it for 25 cents but all it does is take a bill in and return it, Could I have done some thing wrong? It did install the right way as far as the read out  or codes that were supposed to show..
Thanks Dave

Dave   NLG Welcome

Now need to figure out which model machine you have. Unless the BV is a large external box you don't have a S. That would narrow it down to a S+ or a S 2000. Two pictures of your machine one door closed and one door open would really help. Assuming you have a DBV, what color is the head ?? Sounds silly but the two choices are unpainted metal or Black. DBV 145 will be unpainted and DBV 200 will be Black.

Then the ans. to Cowboys questions and will have something to work with.

Dave About the only upgrade is change it to a DBV 200. You can use the same transport, depending what you have, you may have to change the BV power supply. Someone I'm sure can post a pic. of the power supply you will need. Other than the power supply it's plug and play.   DBV 145 was JUNK the day they designed it. Well it works just not very well.

Agree with Post Agree with Post Agree with Post Agree with Post
The up-grade would be a DBV 200

You can get an up-graded chip for the 145, but personally it's not worth the money.
Just get the 200 and you might need to up-grade the power supply for it.

Looks like buzz beat me to it, so I'll end with.  Agree with Post

Correct me if I'm wrong, butt the 200 still won't take the new fives. Wouldn't he be better off going to a WBA validator instead?

Wait for the answer to my previous post then place a WTB ad in the classifieds here on the site or contact one of the dealers listed on the NLG homepage

Rudysdeals has the housings for $7.00, so it's not hugely expensive. I seen complete setups for under $100

David I guess we will never see you post your having trouble with a WBA.  Me I have a pretty big box of WBAs that are JUNK. Oh and JCM made the WBA before the DBV 200.

Rob your forgetting WBA power supply and a cash can. But $100 is going to be pretty close.  Scratch Head Scratch Head

If this was my machine for home use, I would get 5 or 6 old one dollar bills that the 145 will except, set the BV for a penny. Insert 5 one dollar bills = 500 credits and let the Wife have at it. ( I sound Jewish don't I, nope, just cheap ) Star of David Hanukka Menorah

Funny, the majority of my S+ machines have DBV-200s and work perfectly fine.

I am just looking for the cheapest way out, update or whatever and where I can get the parts, this machine is just for home use and like I have said I am into the older slots from the 30's or older so this is just a toy for me and don't want to spend a lot on it , it may never be used but would like it to be ready for use!

thanks every one

please excuse if this is considered hijacking the thread, but I find it hard to believe that I have 2 bad DBV 200s, is there a possibility that my set chip is not working correctly, or could it be a software issue with the DBV itself?

The cheapest way out would be to keep what you have and use $1 bills since the $1 hasn't changed its format to the "new style" bill and will still be accepted by the DBV-145.  You can also use "old style" $5s, $10s, $20s, $50s, and $100s if you are able to find any of them laying around.

The next cheapest option would be to upgrade to a DBV-200 head (which may require a new power supply, too, if your current DBV power supply does not have vents on it (the "vented" power supplies can drive a 145 or a 200, but the non-vented ones can only drive a 145)).  The 200 will accept $1s, "new" (large portrait) and old $20s, $50s, and $100s.  I do not believe it will accept new $10s or $5s, nor can it be programmed to do so.

The most expensive and most labor intensive option would be to upgrade to a WBA.  I'm not terribly familiar with the WBAs, and I'm not positive as to what bills you'll be able to get accepted with that.

Second cheapest way is to get older $20's.  I have lots of older $20's (without color).  It seems I have pretty easy access to them here in Vegas.  They show up all the time and I collect them for the older slots.  If anyone needs older $20's, I'd be happy to sell them for $40 each (just kidding).  bust gut laughing
