Open the door, power "OFF" the machine and remove the MPU.
Make sure the 4th dipswitch on the MPU is in the "OFF" position.

Then go into the menus by powering up and with the door open - press the test button until you see a zero in the "Coins Played" window on the reel display.
Then press the Change/Service button on the deck until you see an [8-X].
This is the "Bill Acceptor Pay Mode".
Press the "Spin" button until you see [8-1]

Close the door and throw an old $1.00 dollar bill in it.
You should get 4 credits on the credits display!

From the PSR sheet on your SP932 Game Prom...>>>

Bill Acceptor Pay Mode <0> [8]
This option can be changed only if DIP switch 4 is off.  Changes to this option are ignored when the credit type is noncredit.  The options are pay coins from the hopper {2}, convert bills to credits {1}, or follow the player-initiated credit {0}.  If set to follow the player-initiated credit, bills are converted to credits if the player has selected the credit mode, or paid from the hopper if the player has selected the noncredit mode.

The [5-0] that you reported seeing is the "Player-Selectable Credit" section of the menus...>>>

Player-Selectable Credit <0> [5]
Options are standard credit or noncredit {0}, player-initiated credit {1} and player-initiated noncredit {2}.  The player-initiated credit option defaults to the noncredit mode when the credit meter remains at zero for more than 30 seconds, or when any accumulated credits are cashed out.  The player-initiated noncredit option defaults to the credit mode if (a) the game is idle for 30 seconds, and it remains in the credit mode when credits are cashed out, and (b) coupon credits are accumulated.  If set to {0}, coupons are not accepted.

Red is what you see, green is what you want.

That's screwed up!  bust gut laughing
Go by the #4 on the dipswitch itself - disregard the printed stuff on the stupid board that some dummy put there.

Now...who the heck puts a "0" for dipswtich #1 -
when there's NO bloody dipswitch named number #zero ????!?!?!??! Cry Laughing

press the change button...stop turning the reset key!

If that don't work...change the [5-0] to [5-1] then try to change the [8-2] to a [8-1]

If the lamp on the SPIN button turns off, then it's NOT enabled.

Hmm.... Scratch Head

When you turn the Reset key...the SPIN button lamp stays "ON" as you go through the menu?
I'm wondering if hitting the Change button is "Locking In" the setting -
instead of flipping you through the menu.

In the PSR, you willl see that changing the setting for the bill pay requires that the 4th dipswitch be "OFF" and the credit type be set at a non-credit.

I'm attaching the SP932 PSR for you below....>>>

[5-0] is also "standard" credits.

Go ahead and try to set the Bill Pay for [8-1] = "convert bills to credits " using the Credit button to cycle to [8-X].
Whatever it's on, change it to [8-1] using the SPIN button.
Once you see the [8-1], close the door and make sure the latch is fully in the down position.
The lights on the display should go out briefly then come back on...
after a few seconds...the reels may do their "maiden spins"
and the Insert Coin light should come on signifying that the game is ready to accept coins or bills.
Any accepted bills should be converted to credits
and be displayed on the credits window on the reel glass.

That would be the Change button (far left one) but it only works on older SP versions

Do you have credits on the machine?  You can't change the settings when you have credits on the machine.

I mean, I realize that we're trying to solve the problem of getting bills to credits, but it's still possible that there are credits on the machine from previous wins.  yes

Older SP chips like SP 731 I could change any settings including limits with credits on it.

Any of the SP above  the 1000 mark I could not change things with credits on it.

I am not sure about SP chips that are in the 800's its been too long since I have played with a S+.
No I wont go back to one unless it is given to me with free shipping.
I am definitely spoiled with my S2000.

What I would do is just use a Clear chip...erase everything, install the proper SET chip to re-enable the DBV
and go from there.
The bills accepted should automatically go to credits by default of the SET chip.
