S2000 won't boot up, nothing on the display.

I have an S2000 (Double Diamond) that has an enhanced cpu board (the one with the hinged handle) When I turn the machine on all of the lights come on but there is nothing in the display, the bv does not cycle, nor does it go to game ready mode. On the cpu itself, only the top green led is lit, no others. Any idea as to what could be wrong with this cpu? I had a spare enhanced cpu and when it is installed, the game comes on and I believe the correct led lights are lit on the cpu but the botton red led blinks and on the display it says displays netplex link is down anid it is flashing on and off as well. Could I have 2 bad cpu boards here? For what it is worth, I am using 363s for my SG chips. I tried to do a clear and instead of the 2 amber led lights coming on in sequence, the top amber led is blinking.

Have you changed anything on the machine before the problem occurred

If not check for bent pin in the white AMP connectors on the MPU board.
Also fully seat the MPU in the machine by applying gentle pressure all along mpu tray.
If I remember right top amber blink means there is an issue with the EEPROM on the mother board,
which could be caused by mpu not fully seated or a connection issue.


I had done something to my MPU a couple times (game change or such) and for some reason it did not fully seat when I re-installed into the machine.
Machine showed the similiar issues, mpu at that time was a 502 or 504 board.

I already changed the power supply behind the reels, and have installed a known working cpu in the game, so I am pretty sure it has something to do with the main cpu board.

If you have another machine that can accept the questionable 1270 enhanced MPU's without having to change the mother board
Follow these steps carefully
1 Place a piece of tape or something on the tray or on an exposed area of the good MPU board, so you can ID the MPU easily.
2 Remove the legacy adapter off the good board if that is what the good 1270 has on it.
3 Remove the legacy adapter off the questionable MPU (one that has the game for the questionable machine, and install it on the good MPU, do not worry about fastening it down with the screws
4 Install the good mpu in the questionable machine and see if it works.

IF you only have one machine with a 1270 (I am in same boat as I only have one machine) is to send your 1270 MPU's, legacy adapters, chips and maybe the motherboard to a member that is willing to test them for you.
I can test them for you if you like
I do not think you have a bad MPU (its possible but I think highly unlikely if the game was working just fine.
I would try something I suggested to another member when he had a coin in jam issue that would not clear and that is to unplug all the top box stuff
then power it up




Also make sure you are not pinching the power or netplex data harness for the VFD in the main door hinge.

The pinched wire happened to me after a game change. The bundle of Green Wires next to the top door hinge.
Foster found the wires would get pinched when closing the door & some of the wires worked, some didn't.

I have taken the adapter off of a working machine with the same type cpu and installed it on the questionable board, same results. I have also installed the adapter from the questionable cpu and installed it on the known working enhanced cpu and it booted up just fine. But, like you, I still find it hard to believe that I have an bad cpu.

That's very low. It's a 3.6v battery and on the 1270 board it's critical for operation. You might try putting it in and turning the machine on for a few hours to see if it takes a charge. Can't guarantee it's the cause of the problem, but it's worth a try...

By the way, that one doesn't generate a low battery code on the VFD when it gets low

does it have to be the same type 3.6 v battery, or can I use one like I would for a S+ or a Bally 6000 machine? I have a spare board that the green battery is showing 2.32v, should I desolder that one and install it into the questionable board to see if it will charge?

It is worth a try the battery is the same as ones on 50x series MPU for the S2000
it must be a 3.6V Ni-MH Battery
Do not substitute a non rechargeable battery for it.
If you do you might see a very bad thing happen to your MPU, Machine, House if you get my drift.

I suspect Batteries Plus has the battery if you need to get a new one.

it did not take a charge, i think someone said that it is a 3 prong battery? Does anone know for sure if Batteries Plus has this type of battery? If not, would a computer store carry these? I checked out Mouser and did not really see the type I need unless I overlooked something.
