You did install it in the right socket and not upside down, no bent pins right? I verified it was good before I sent it.

There is a removable jumper by the game chip, what pins are it on? It should be on the two pins closest to the CMOS chip.

See my edit about the jumper (not sure which direction you mean by "right").  You are getting no display at all?

If it's not already there, move it to the two pins that are closest to the CMOS chip.

Will it take coins? That does not sound like an error code. Did the reels do their maiden spin? Was the hopper in when you cleared the 61?

Ok, lets start from scratch.

Power down the machine with the hopper in.
Power it up. If you get a 61, with the door open, press the self test button until it changes to 61_1.
Close AND latch the door and turn the reset key. Let us know what happens next.

Hmmm...

Ok. Power down the machine and remove the hopper and MPU. Replace the game chip with that clear chip. Don't move any jumpers or anything

Put the mpu back in (leave the hopper out).

With the door open, power up the machine.

Wait a couple of seconds and press the self test button. The display should count up a couple of times.

When it's done, power down the machine and put the SP1271 back in. Put the MPU and hopper back in and try again.

for all who are helping with this thread -

I could probably use some help as the stuck 61 (no 61_1) is a new one for me.  Scratch Head The clear should fix it though. If not, I'm stumped.  arrow

Oh, you are pressing the self test button by the power switch (the one you used to check the chip numbers) and not the one on the coin optics board mentioned earlier in the thread, correct???

It's pretty hard to mess up one of these boards.

Did you try to do the clear? I would definitely try that.

Did you move the jumper back when you put your game chip back in?

Hmmm... I wonder if your jackpot key is working.

If you can't get it to stop, you can pull the CMOS chip out for a few seconds and put it back in. That will cause it to lose it's credit count.

But I really would do the clear at this point.

FYI, the EEPROM on the motherboard (the board the MPU plugs into) and the CMOS keep all of the settings and other information. Different versions of the SP chip have different formats of how the data is stored. Since you have a very old SP chip, I think running the clear chip is the best option. Basically it deletes everything in the EEPROM and CMOS, and the newer game chip can start fresh instead of possibly getting confused with how the old data was stored. You "should" have gotten some other errors besides the 61 when you switched the SP chip. That's probably why the 61 got stuck.
