Anyways, I think they sell soldering pencils as a kit with paste and soldering wire for like about $9 bucks.
Pick up a kit and some metal paper clips and try soldering a little box out of them!    
If you can make a box with clips, you can do anything!

Bunny What Bunker said is absolutely correct, and using that same set of logic  if you buy a real sharp pocket knife  Patrice on a couple of Rib I Steaks ( T bone if you prefere ) then you will be qualified to preform brain surgery. Perhaps Tacman will volunteer to be your first patient.  A word of CAUTION, if rumores mean anything you may need a magnifying glass to find it !!!!!!!!!!!  


formertexan  I live about 45 minutes North of the I-15 /  I-10 split.  ( About 1/2 way between Palmdale and Victorville.) And I will be more than happy to do it for you. ( I have batterys )

The picture you posted of your board is the easier one  to solder a battery to. I would say go ahead and give it a try, just follow most of Bunker's voteo.  I say most because I can't figure out why he used flux to desolder the battery or why he uses sandpaper to clean the tip when a damp rag works just as well and a lot quicker.  ( Only Bunker knows for sure )


Mark I'm back, they pissed me off and I only hauled two rides to Vegas. ( two trips ) spent the night in the sleeper in Whisky Pete's parking lot and never went inside the Casino.  Back just seeing how much  I can stir up. Today is pick on the other Mark day. Will just a cheap electric soldering iron do the job.  I don't have a soldering iron so I will have to buy one.  Hopefully I won't have to spend a lot of money on one.

On your invoice from Interstate Battery I couldn't read it very well.  If you could give me the item number of the battery from Interstate I will take mine back and ask for your item number...     Or is just any 3.6V Lithium battery with wire leads a correct one?????

I'd go back to Interstate though and ask for an axial battery.
Like you said, it's NOT critical that the battery has the flat tabs -
wired batteries or the ones with axial leads would work fine as you can see from my video clip.

Buzz, I've sanded papered my solder pencil tip for years...
I leave the darn thing on too long and the pencil gets too hot and gets CAKED with hardened junk!!! 
I don't use my Weller soldering station for simple jobs like this -
just my cheap old trusty pencil solder.

I didn't flux the battery lead - I flux my pencil to get it hotter! LOL
I know, I know... but it works for me...

Hello Everyone,

Just a quick note here.  I am in Los Angeles and getting ready to come back to Cathedral City, later this evening.

I checked yesterday morning at Interstate Batteries where I bought the other one.  He checked on his computer with the numbers that you gave me and he couldn't find any with the axial leads.  The first one he showed me the other day didn't have the wires on it after all.

If I can find a Interstate Battery store here in Los Angeles I will see if they have any.  They might close before I get out of my play though.

I made it back from Los Angelos without any luck getting a battery with aerial leads. 
The man at Interstate Batteries here in Cathedral City had taken my information I received from the forum and said he would check further into if he could get me the correct battery. 

I had a message on my answering machine when I got home last night that he had some information for me.  So I will check with him when they open this morning.

All that you are doing is changing a battery.
However, you are welcome to spend $200 on a professional soldering station to change a $2 battery...  
Can't you just borrow a soldering gun or soldering pencil from your neighbor next door?

Don  You have a couple of choices, first PM me your address and I'll send you a battery. second I will be in Beaumont 2 AM Monday morning, I should be there for about a hour and a half. I can bring a battery and soldering iron no problem soldering using the inverter I have in my big truck.  ( Works with a Mr Coffee )

Nope,  Carnival Rides     Last Monday it was 2 round trips to Las Vegas, this week one from Beaumont to Merced  ( 257 miles ) drop that one off and Bobtail to Las Vegas ( 455 miles ) pick up a ride I left there Monday and take it to Santa Maria ( 401 miles )  Hope and pray then don't want me to go to Las Vegas twice.  The truck runs out of diesel and I run out of gas.

A little trivia  they just this past winter put a s**t pot of lights on their Big Wheel ( 110 foot high Ferris wheel )  Cost 200 GRAND  it's all computer controlled and puts out quite a light show. Each light module is about 6 or 8 inch's long, mounted one after the other on each and every spoke, they said they cost $151 each. And just think, the right tree limb when I'm moving the wheel could cause a lot of damage, each and every one of those lights are right out on the edge of the trailer, both sides.

Sorry to ask so many questions about the battery and soldering iron.  Some of us are good at many (certain) things and some of us are better at (other) things.  You have apparently done a lot of soldering and working on circuit boards.  I haven't done any of this, but I'm willing to try if I get the chance.   

As for borrowing a solding iron or gun from the neighbors they are ALL in their 80's and 90's and having a soldering gun is about the last thing they would have.  And I am in my 70's.  But as I said I am "Still Willing to Try the Soldering".  I WILL review the soldering post again.

I will go to Radio Shack and try to get a 15W solding gun, flux and solder.

Good luck, Don.  If you've never used a soldering iron before, I'd do as Bunker suggested and play with some paper clips and solder first to get a feel for it before you do the board.  Let us know how it turns out!

Hopefully one last question before I solder.

I have the correct battery (I bought on E-bay).  I bought a 15 watt soldering iron from Radio Shack.  Rosin soldering Flux from Radio Shack.
"And my question".  I bought 60/40 Rosin-core solder (.032" Diameter, light duty), from Radio Shack..........It doesn't say Electronic Circuit Solder..Is This OK To Use On My Circuit Board?

Yes Sir.  what you bought will work just fine.   You can use just about any kind of solder but acid core.  ( Acid eats the copper )

If I have a brand new soldering iron do I have to coat the tip with my solder first?  If this is correct, do I just hold the soldering iron to the solder and let it melt on it on the tip of the gun?

I DID IT!!!!!

I just finished solding the battery and turned the machine on and got 61 code and went from there......
