Hi all,
 
From what I've seen posted here I guess I need a zero out to get my machine working again. Does anyone have any knowledge of exactly what is on these chips and what they do? I have seen postings where people have mentioned that you cannot copy them without ruining it. Is the security pal the same way?
Or is it tied to the PCB bios or ram or both??
Gamewise, is it possible to change game roms board to board as long as the ram is still charged. Do all the games operate with the same software or revision?
Does the zero chip replace the security pal or the revision socket?
I don't have a manual so I am really guessing here. If it's like mosy manuals though it's probably about useless. Anyone have a layout of the PCB (jumpers, dips & anything else)?
What does the serial(I think) port on the power+counter box hook up to. Laptop w/ accounting stat keeping software?

I know that's a lot of questions to start off with, but anything would be a help.

you can replace any of the chips with the exception of the security pal.  The security pal runs pal equations that are specific to each chip set (game).  The security pal will have the same number as the program chips and cannot be used except with the exact same game.  The security pal cannot be copied.  Any attempt to read the program will distroy it.  It sounds strange but true.  You need to watch out for the memory chips as well. The main problem comes when you get a memory mismatch between the memory chips.  The memory on the board is redundantly backed up to each other.  If something happens like a battery failure, you need to do a ram clear (setting them all back to the same data) using a zero chip that matches your security chip.
In short, if you go messing with the main board chips, you will more than likely need a ram clear chip (zero) for your chip set to get it running again.

I have clear chips and additional software for 88XX serries boards and can clear them in most cases it requires you to send the board to me.
